Thanks guys (y), I agree with you about the interior. I'm afraid my plans will change things about a bit, but hope you approve of the outcome, after all, there is only one Poppi, especailly when yo get those white stripes back :).

Not sure if the stripes will be going back on yet. All down to John to decide on that one.(y)

Whats the plan with the interior on this one?

Well first job will be to strip everything out, ready for a good clean up to see what we have. Then, once the bare interior is up together, it's in with the new. I'm thinking tan leather and suede, but my wallet says vinyl ;), so I'm currently looking for some seats to base it all around.

I bet you're thinking , what about the original interior! Well that's all being transfered to Charmania, it will better suit what's going on with that one, apart from the front seats, I've found some sportier ones.

OMG, my FF activity ceases a little over a few days and I've missed out on loads! :p

Looks like a smashing find Vernon!

Thanks Paul, I must get a clay bar and try it, I've often wondered what they were like.

:yeahthat:

They're really good apparently. Andy Monty swears by them. I keep meaning to get some to do dad's white Selecta and our other motors with :)

Manda guys, do you use one on Poppi?

Jon.

Took the protective seat covers off the front seats and was pleasantly surprised! I won't be using them but another forum member might ;).

Also, I went over to my green CLX to pinch the side window from it to replace the one with the broken catch. It has a green tint though so will swap the catches over and put the original back as soon as I work out how to get it off , at least it's water tight now.

I did learn that the hinges are not interchangeable! At some point, probably when the CLX was introduced, Fiat decided to start drilling the holes for them a bit further away from the front edge of the window. So if you ever get a second hand glass make sure it comes with the hinges to be on the safe side. It's easier to leave them on and just pull the whole lot out of the slots in the bodywork anyway.

Farmyard met up with Charmania yesterday too.......

Do you have all your 6 pandas outside your house!?!

OOOoooohhh :)

No. The Fizz is now a few streets away with a new owner. The 750L is in Hereford where my Daughter is borrowing it until Charmania is ready. The green CLX spares car is 12 miles away in a storage unit I rent, but the other three are outside the house. :)

Wow, looking incredible. I cant beleive the condition of those seats, I had images in my head of a rotting festering seat beneath the covers haha!! Obviously the covers were more to protect the car against the owners rather than the other way round ;)

Even the protective covers are in good nick, so will come in very handy on there own for future use.

Although I'm not using the original seats in either car I will investigate the problem both drivers seats have in common, which is sagging at the back of the base, it's bad enough that you feel the seat frame in the small of your back. My plan is to take the covers off where I'm hoping to find removeable straps that I can swap around. It's probably only a couple that have stretched, so by putting them nearer the front, one in the drivers seat, one in the passenger seat, I'm hoping to breathe new life into them. Will post my findings later.

Nope cheaper to supply john with his thermos cup, and a bottle of polish :D

Poppi never gets the chance to have the dirt on her long enough anyway.

Had a look at the seats from charmania, as it's the one I'm using at the moment it would allow me to test anything I tried.

The strapping wasn't quite as I'd hoped, I thought it would be four or five horizontal straps (as you look at this picture), so wasn't expecting to see the two verticle ones as well. The area that has gone week is at the back of the seat base (top in the picture), and as there aren't any horizontal straps in this area I couldn't replace them.
As this isn't part of the project I didn't want to spend too much time on it so went for a quick fix............

It's simply a piece of 6mm plywood slotted in between the foam and the straps. When I went for a spin to test the results I found that I was no longer sitting in a dip and had restored my ride height. I could no longer feel the seat frame in my back so comfort was improved also, however, I could feel that I was sitting on a board which kind of suggests that the foam had lost alot of it's strength and this was the main cause of the sagging, more so than the straps. I'm happy with the result though, and shall enjoy my more Germanic seat for a couple of weeks until it's replaced by something far more siutable.

Poor old Farmyard, must be feeling a bit ignored recently, but while I was having the wheels and tyres fitted to Charmania I did get them to remove the tyres from the wheels I'll be using for this one.
After 10 years in a garage the tyres were no good to anyone so just got binned. The wheels weigh next to nothing on there own! not sure if they're made from alloy or magnesium, but they are in very good condition so shouldn't need too much work before painting. Good job as I wouldn't like to do too much to all those spokes.
The back seat has been removed and is now fitted to Charmania, front seats will come out soon so that I can start cleaning up that grotty interior.

That's interesting - I thought you'd got a strap missing there as the hooks are there for one at the rear, but on checking my '90 4x4 found it's just the same as yours in the pic with hooks there but no strap. Would it be possible to fit another strap from a scrapper at the back?

Yeah, if the hooks are there I see no reason why not, I can't remember seeing them when I had the seat out but they'll be out again soon as the next job on Charmania will probably be fitting the new seats. I'll have another look and report back (y).
