General Another Mk1 Rescued!

SORRY I WAS TYPING ON MY IPOD AND MEANT TO 'LIKE' (NOT DISLIKE) YOUR POST:bang:

APOLOGIES, YOUR CARS BOTH LOOK AWESOME

I've long been a fan of C EAG and now also of your new car!

Vernon and I have twins too!!!:D

Some great photos for reference too...is that a screenwash bag I see there - I haven't got one of those:(

Looks like another job for the list!

:ROFLMAO::doh:

Thanks - I'm sure you & Vernon will make great parents!

Actually it's a contraption the first owner had covering the dizzy cap. I nearly took it off then thought it was a) clever and b) looked like it may have been on there originally as it has a popper to undo it - a few commented today and we couldn't decide whether it was original or a clever idea for stopping moisture in the electrics. It does look a bit like the "colostomy bag" used for screenwash in the 127s, but the screenwash is in the normal place next to the spare wheel. (y)

Hi Vernon.

Probably not, sorry. Too many cars & I haven't a driver to take another for me - though if anyone's near to Bucks and wants to drive a Panda to Castle Combe let me know! How are you getting all of yours to CC?

My partner Barbara is driving the blue clx, her Daughter Vicky is driving Charmania, Vicky's boyfriend Scott is driving the 4x4, and I'm driving the Buick :D.

We are all going from Alton in convoy so should be easy to spot ;).

Nice pics Gavin, the car looks a cracker! (y) I'm sure it'll be even better before long, having said that, it doesn't look like you have much to do.

Vernon and I have twins too!!!

 now you've done it Martin, we'll never live this down.. You're just gonna have to paint yours red ;)

Erm, sorry Vern...will paint my little 'A' reg in RED as suggested!!!

Palio, love the colostomy bag extra!!!(y)

Currently got this little beauty in my workshop to carry out a few jobs.

Hats off to Gavin for having this work done, most people might not have bothered but this car is in such good nick it really does deserve it.

First job is a wheel refurb complete with new tyres, wheels came back today and wow! what a great job they've made of it.........

First pic. is with an old wheel I had for comparison.

And with the wheel bolts de-rusted and centre caps cleaned up......

All five have been done and are now just waiting tyres. They've powder coated them, not only do they look great but they feel great too, so smooooth :D

It's going in for mot while it's with me, I was hoping to have this done last week but unfortunately the other area I have to attend to, rear of o/s sill and wheel arch, were a fail point so this will have to be sorted first.

Two other little jobs I've sorted are a missing battery clamp and an exhaust blow at the manifold clamp.

Crikey they can't be the same wheels!!!

Thanks for the update. Not entirely sure what the big issue was with last year's advisory (the area looked fairly ok to the untrained eye) but it validates my decision to get it done properly rather than an MOT standard bodge I think. At least that's what I'm telling myself

Definately. I had a poke around in an attempt to start cleaning up the area for Pete and found that alot of the rusty bits were dust that quickly ended up on the drive. It's still a small area compared to most Pandas but would have failed the mot, so your advisor from last year was dead right, may need that repair panel after all. :(

Taking the debate about the colour of the lower stonechip area away from Stuarts thread here's a couple of pics..........

Not sure they help really as it does look grey in the pics but more brown in the flesh :(. Ah well, Pete's the one who has to match it.

Gavin, I did try putting some trim detailer on my Mk1 but it seems to be a different colour to yours both before and after.

Can see what you mean - hint of brown ;) Interesting that yours is a different colour though, how odd as they are both unmolested - Fiat probably got a different supplier by the end of the mk1 run! Fortunately it's being matched rather than buying off the shelf, though I'm not sure Pete will see it the same way :D

It's finished!!!

Before it went to have the bodywork done I repaired an exhaust blow and replaced a missing battery clamp, this allowed Pete to mot it after he'd finished the bodywork. Fortunately, there was nothing else wrong so it went straight through :).

Here's some before and afters of the bodywork.......

And after........

Got it back last night so today I was able to fit the wheels complete with a new set of Pirelli P3000's.

It really is a lovely MK1 now, Pete and the mot tester were very impressed, Gavin, I am very jealous :yum:

:worship: Aw Man, Simply "WoW" :worship: Has to be the best MK1 around now surely.
Yourself and Pete need to take a bow and stand proud for not just saving another MK1 but for the job thats been done.(y)

Thank you Stuart, praise indeed coming from you (y), but this one was already superb so I don't feel as though it needed saving at this point.

I did very little towards this so I think Pete must take the praise, oh and the wheel refurbishers.

I would certainly put it in the top five of Mk1's, just below yours and well above mine ;)

Thanks for the comments Stuart Stuartl I've seen the work going into yours :worship: so I appreciate the thought but not sure it's that good compared to yours.

What it is, is a very good original (now with a little resto on a wheelarch) mk1 which is never intended to be concours in any way shape or form. It will be used properly (i.e. flat out!) and go to shows but it's never going to win prizes for cleanest dustcaps etc :D

The only bit I can take credit for is saving it in the first place, and realising that a) it deserved some minor attention before things got bad, and b) that I'm better off earning the money to get someone to do it properly rather than bodge it myself!

Nice of you to say so VmanC Vernon. I'm sure there are other nice ones around and I'll agree with top 5 mk1's on the road - then Stuart's doesn't count!!!

P.S. I've actually got to wrestle this back from Vernon at some point, though I think he's got other ideas - just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you ;)
