Other manufactures I have worked with work in this manner, for instance if you drive off the forecourt & radio stops working you get a recon unit. Only if the stereo was found to be fault at PDI stage (i.e, before customer recieved the car) would it be changed with a new unit. Engines, gearboxes, ECU's etc were the same.

You've worked with a some highly dodgy firms in that case! Would you care to name and shame?

Re: Folks - It Just gets better and better

Who made that decision? Dealer or Fiat? Really unbelievably bad.

Oh, and would all those who poo-poo'd rejection as an option please help themselves to a large slice of humble pie...

Agreed!
I'm pretty sure that the usual suspects on this forum will never admit they're in the wrong, even when it's blindingly obvious to any right-minded person. You wouldn't believe the abuse doled out when I suggested someone sought free consumer advice. Then again, if you've been looking at past threads you possibly would...

Note to OP: this is typical of the abuse doled out by fiat employees 'cruising' on this site

It's very rare for a truely new unit to be supplied unless in exceptional circumstances, for instance- we had a 1.3 diesel engine fail, found that a recon unit had no ETA, and reached an agreement with Fiat to supply a completely new unit instead at the same cost.

The recon units are pretty much just reused casings with all the internals replaced with new parts and built by the same people who are building the new engines/'boxes/EGR's/ECU's/etc. This is why in the event of damage occuring to the casing, Fiat (or any other manufacturer) will not accept the old unit in exchange.

Occasionally mistakes happen, and a part may fail due to a manufacturing or human error, and is as likely to occur in a new unit as it is in a recon one.

Why is it taking so long to get right in this case?... why is another box not here yet?... I don't know- but I'd hazard a guess that the white stuff outside that's delaying little things like letters may also slow down the delivery of something larger like a gearbox. ;)

lol another mis-quote, I am not, and never have been a Fiat employee.

Please try & get your facts right because you just look petty as usual:rolleyes:

p.s I dont 'cruise' this site, I moderate it!

Good point. What a rotten spot of luck for the OP.

Heaven forbid a meaningful and balanced debate should occur.

(BTW, like T- have never been an employee of Fiat, and in fact, left my job at a Fiat Dealership to work on Jap performance stuff. :p)

cant talk about infraction or warnings on open forum;)

My question remains unanswered - please name the manufacturers who replace faulty parts with reconditioned, as I rather not use them. The tone of your previous comments would seem to indicate you feel this is an acceptable practice and, as such, you should have no qualms in naming them.

Excuse me but dont ever demand anything from me! and stop trying to put words in my mouth.

Re: Folks - It Just gets better and better

:p fancy rebushing the rear end of a 17 year old car with polybushes? :p Sorry for the ot talk!

Hmmmmmmmm... no.

Polybushes are simple to fit TBH, I was quite surprised- a damn sight easier than pressing-in OEM rubber mounts!

I did not demand, I asked you to clarify who these firms are.

I put no words into your mouth - one of your previous posts indicated that some firms, who you have previously been employed by, replace faulty parts with reconditioned parts. I simply asked who these firms were as I would not like to experience this, and can imagine that others may feel the same way.

Can you not oblige please and tell us who these fims are?
