Re: Vauxhall Astra Coupe

Looks nice! If i were to get a pug 106 backbox that i know is cheap would you be able to give me a hand with your welding skills? :D Ill supply the pizza this time haha

Cheers mate, just needs a bit more work. A patch fell off underneath the box and it had rusted through, so need to find a bit of a patch to repair it.

Yeah im up for it, but get it ASAP. giving the welder back to my mate soon... unless you can get hold of one...(y)

Tinting will look nice! Got it on my GP ;)
Hope everything goes well for you!

dont like the alloys personally, but all else is great. (y)

i think the Alloys should work quite well when they are on the car when its lowered and tinted. but thats my opinion.

ive seen another one with them, but in a lighter silver coupe than my own. it looked quite good.

hopefully with the darker color of mine it should make it looker even sweeter ;)

the springs and shocks should be done by October, with the help of Eklipze3k, when i finally get them...

ur car mate, if ur happy, then its all good mate. (y)

Cheers, as your sig says, Modding dont be a sheep... (y)

I might take a bit more thinking, but springs and shocks are definately been done first. only 40mm, as my car already sits low(ish) and 60mm would be stupid with the speed bumps here...

Oh Russ, when's the next Toby carvery meet? I can note it down to see if either you or sam are still available to collect me ^^
the next one is on Sunday 28th August :yum:

right, the next mod that will be done over the next few weeks :D

as some of you may remember i did this to my punto...

i stuck on some LED strips to the front bumper and wired them up to the ignition, so regardless of the light posistion, they would come on with the engine. so theoretically Day Running Lights (DRL's)

Well my next project to keep me busy until i have enough money for the springs and shocks is to do a similar project on the Astra..

Buy a set of headlights from a Astra, cut them open and wire a set of the LED strips onto the Side Lights. replacing the original W5W bulbs with the strip of LED's.

I was planning on buying a set of lights from FK at the same time as the springs, but it will cost me over £300 for a set with DRL's and HID's and thats without the HID units

Russ, how easy is it to get them drls on? I really want some, but id end up getting xenons swell!

On the Punto or the Astra?

on the punto i just used a HotMelt glue Gun to fix them onto the plastic bumper. used a bit of sand paper to create a rough surface first though.. Then the wires need an extension of around 2m's then run the wire from the engine bay into the cabin, then feed it behind the dash to your ignition barrel, connect it to the red wire. thats it...

As for the Astra... Much simpler :D...
The light units on the Astra are multi-piece (compared to single on the Puntos..) Which means that i can dismantle the "glass" front of the lights and expose the plastic reflection pieces inside., the LED's will be attached around the top of the headlights along the "eyebrow" of the Unit.. this way they follow the units natural lines and dont obstruct light output (y)

then all that remains is buying a W5W adapter, which will allow me to wire the LED's to a Fixture which will cleanly attach to the W5W socket and run the DRL's as Sidelights :)

people might think this is going to reduce light output of my side lights, but they are pityfull and dont produce a great deal of obvious light, so this will produce much more light...

also, they technically wont be "DRL's" on the Astra, on the Punto they we completely seperate and were on whenever the ignition was... on the Astra they will be a direct replacement to the sidelights, so to me they will be DRL's as i drive with my sidelights on anyway :p

Too complicated for me :( Put it this way, I thought you could buy stick on footwell lights without wiring. :L Id love to get xenon and drls, would look nice :)

Nothings as simple as it seems, footwell neons wire into the interior light i presume... however you can buy a set that plug into your 12v (cig lighter) socket, these are much simpler...

they arent too difficult, i was going to make a guide for them, but kinda forgot. you can buy the kits from Halfords or Motor Factors, these come with instructions anyway (y)

I'd probably get the set that plug in, don't smoke, so it's useless ;) might take a trip over to hellfrauds tommorow then, see what I can get :)
thanks for the informattion mate much appreciated.
