Has anyone fitted or tried one if these on the 500, anyone know where the OBD diagnostic port is located in the 500. Would be cool if can have plug concealed and wire fed through dashboard. ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1379243441.777197.jpgImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1379243452.355190.jpg

Why though? Aside from the gearshift, one of the best things about the 500 is the instrument panel and how he revcounter chases the speedometer.

Bobparkey just do a search OBD-II HUD and they'll come up also avail on eBay just look out for mph version as a lot are kph. The is nothing wrong with the 500 instruMent panel I just always fancied one they are becoming standard on larger cars and it'd be a cool ad on

The OBD connector in a panel under the drivers side dash vent. You have to remove the panel and it won't fit back into place if you have a connector attached. You can cut away the cubby hole there and refit though. It's only a small piece so you could always buy a spare.

The 500 speedo is a joke. It's 10% out and the needle is so wide it covers an area representing about 5km/h (instead of pointing to the numbers it simply covers them). Next to useless. Perhaps if the 500 is your only car, but I'm used to cars with a 1% error and legible dials. I end up driving off my OBD data. It's pretty though

Most of these HUD units will let you recalibrate for accuracy but most if not all of the aftermarket units will have issues with double imaging on the laminated glass. Nissan's had factory HUD in the early 90's and I quite liked theirs.

Most Fiat speedo's are upto 10% out, software driven as you'll be aware, as are a lot of other manufactures. Nothing specific to the 500.

Because it makes all the difference on a car that can do 110 (mph) absolutely flat out. Why the need for such accuracy?

I do wonder whether people on here actually DRIVE their cars, or just sit and stroke them.

To be fair to UFI, he lives in a city which actually has the problem with speed cameras which people in the UK think they have, that said if you just keep to the speed limit on the speedo you'll be fine ;)

Wasn't necessarily directing my comments directly at him, but my point still stands. It's hardly a fast car, so you have to be a right effing chump to get yourself into any trouble.

Can't see the issue, if sticking to indicated speed on the speedo you'llbe completely safe with camera, with a slight margin for error on your part of going slightly over the indicated limit.

You will, but speed cameras can be literally anywhere in Perth, very few people get through life without getting caught speeding a few times.

Surely any car can get you in trouble, there are no cars (as far as I know) that can't exceed 30mph, which could get you a ticket. Just because people buy a small car doesn't necesserily mean they slow their driving down.

Of course. Probably explains why so many to$$ers complain about the 'bad fuel consumption' of the TA. It's not intrinsically worse, they just press the pedal fully down all of the time. And then bleat about getting speeding tickets and burning petrol (and wearing brakes out).

You could be right there ;)

The car made me speed innit!

Why all the negativity?

This is a forum after all and if someone wants to ask a question surely that is what we (forums) are here for. They don't come here for a lecture and depending on the reception they receive it could determine whether they decide to stick around.

As always, IMHO. :)
