I've recently noticed some mayo around my oil filler cap and on the throat of the oil filler, Is this likely to be the head gasket on the way out? Car is 2014 and has 84K miles up, running well otherwise. I have been doing very little mileage recently and lots of short journeys in the current cold weather - could that be causing condensation and it's not been burnt off fully? Any thoughts welcome, thanks.

Its certainly possible that lots of short journeys in the cold means that the natural condensation that an engine produces has not been burnt /evaporated off -as the engine has not been running at high enough temperature's for long enough to do this!.
Try cleaning as much of the "mayo" off the cap and surround, then go for a longer run of about twenty miles, check the coolant level before you go, and when you get back let the car cool down and check again - any significant drop and you may have a problem! however if its still the same and no new gunge has formed under the cap then its likely its just condensation!

Thankfully it seems the issue is indeed related to short journeys, I cleaned the mayo off and brought it for a few successive long spins, kept the heater off too to help it get up to temperature, all still clean afterwards thankfully. Any journeys I do now I make sure to take a longer route to ensure it reaches temperature, it does seem to take a while though so curious if the thermostat is stuck open. Anyway I'll keep an eye over coming weeks.

They are not prone to HG issues 🙂
