General OBD-II HUD (head up display)

Garmin fan boy here, and I'll say gimmick. It's hard enough to follow GPS directions on my latest and greatest unit sometimes, and without being able to see the map, that would only get worse.

TIP: You can download numerous free apps that turn your smart phone into a HUD. You won't have the special reflective film, but you can get the jist of what a HUD is like.

Because it makes all the difference on a car that can do 110 (mph) absolutely flat out. Why the need for such accuracy?

I do wonder whether people on here actually DRIVE their cars, or just sit and stroke them.

Wasn't necessarily directing my comments directly at him, but my point still stands. It's hardly a fast car, so you have to be a right effing chump to get yourself into any trouble.

I can theoretically get a ticket at 3km/h over. The TA makes peak torque right around cruising speed so it's easier to speed than some of the big turbo cars I've owned where nothing happens before 4000rpm. We're not talking about being caught going 40+ over. If I'm going 40 over, then I don't need no stupid dial to tell me.

Why the need for such accuracy? It's a single value in the ECU code, why not?

Perhaps it's my German blood, if the verkehrsschild says 60, I want to be going exactly 60. Any faster is illegal, any slower is well, slower...

Can't see the issue, if sticking to indicated speed on the speedo you'llbe completely safe with camera, with a slight margin for error on your part of going slightly over the indicated limit.

Easy solution: don't speed.

This must be the first car forum I've been to with next to no car enthusiasts on it.

Why on earth would I willingly drive 90 in a 100 zone?

Is it for the honking and tail gating or just to be an ass in peak hour? This sort of BS is why we have congestion, it only takes one car out of hundreds to be 'doing the limit' based on some random number generator for the crocodile to stretch back past the horizon.

The speedo error itself wouldn't bother me that much if the needle didn't cover 5km/h of the very markings I want to see. Add it up, and it's a crap shoot.

Whoah! Who said I'm not a car enthusiast..? Then again, how did I end up in the 500 section again?

Because it's a limit, not a target.

No, just the 500 section :p

More economical on fuel, better survival rate in an accident :p

You know what I saw last week? A Mk2 Panda! In Australia!

As for the other bit, I already have the most frugal 500 TA in the world, driving slower would just be rubbing it in.

Not really. You can get a ticket for travelling below the limit in the fast lane.

Contradictory much? So it's not really a limit, but you can be done for doing less than it. Makes sense.. ;) Remind me not to come to Oz.

So in heavy rain or fog you've got to do the limit? Speechless.

Dual carriageway and you've got to do the limit? No... If we all did the same speed why have 2 lanes? No point.

It only applies to the freeway, and doesn't apply if traffic or weather conditions prevent such speed. It only applies the the fastest lane the left lanes can drive as slow as 80 if they want. It's not a common thing to run afoul of, but I do know someone who got a fine for going 7km/h (I think) underspeed.

Sorry but you have a bit of a ridiculous system tbh. :p

I think you can be done for going too slow on the motorway in the UK, something to do with not making sufficent progress. Very rarely enforced though, if ever.

I have one of these on my phone, didn't take long for the novelty to wear off, don't use it now.

Slower than 40MPH I saw somewhere, but can't remember where, not that its an issue for me, as I'm normally doing at least 50MPH as my bottom end speed, normally abotu 60MPH and sometimes even hit 70MPH
