General OBD-II HUD (head up display)

I didn't ask about using a HUD because I'm worried about speeding or in accuracy of a 500 speedo, in fact I'd never even thought that a speedo may have a variance. I was asking because I like the idea of having the speed displayed on the glass, just like anyone else might like that idea of adding a optional extra to there car. I am sure there are plenty of options that won't change your life, but you just fancied it for your car. Puts you off asking for advice the way a few respond. And why would anyone think in a small car that you can't get a ticket for speeding, not much smaller than a Peugeot 107 and got ticket for doing 78mph on motorway in Cumbria. Not that I want the HUD because I'm worried. Thanks for the helpful replies guys

My advice, for what its worth, its worth a crack if its not too expensive but expect to get bored of it quite quickly, or save a bit of money and use your smartphone to see if the cost is worth it to you (the only one that matters in the end).

Good luck ;)

Cheers scout500 may try the phone idea there's quite a few apps int there. Cheers for that

HI Dean, always feel free to ask for any advice /help, there are a lot of knowledgeable people in here. Also, don't be put off by any comments as I can assure you they are not meant to be confrontational, it's just the way it comes across sometimes. You'll get used to us .......... eventually. :)

If you get your Head Up Display please take some pics and let us know your opinions, good or bad as others might be inclined to do something similar.

I was considering one of these OBD2 units as well but ultimately decided against it -- most of them are ugly as sin and hard to read.

I do like the speedo found on most GPS devices though, I find that quite handy -- tells me my current (pretty accurate) speed and the speed limit. The one on my TomTom Go 500 and TomTom for iOS works well.
I've compared my 500's speedo with several GPS devices and have found that the speedo is off by about 5km/h or so, which isn't too bad.

What I'm really waiting for is this to be released in Australia:

Pretty snazzy.

It's not a speed but a percentage. Mine's out about 5km at 50 and of course that doubles at 100.

My Garmin nüvi 3597 already does all that (except the crash alert), FWIW, OBD economy data is inaccurate on a TA/ Multiair engine, and some other signals won't be interpreted correctly either.

But it's a bit of a gimick too:

Stepping hard on the gas pedal decreases fuel efficiency and wastes money.

The Garmin also thinks so but the above statement is untrue. Accelerating at BSFC is optimal therefore getting an acceleration score of 70 is better than a 'perfect' 100.

I've always thought about getting one of these, but have had such bad experiences with this kind of Chinese electronics, and reading the posts on here, I think I've just saved myself some cash!

I got myself one of these and the android app torque to check fault codes. The app also outputs mph, revs etc. The adapter is small enough that with a little modification the 'cubby' trim can be put back on. With my phone up on its CD tray holder its as good as a HUD.
