Seicento My 2.0 16v Seicento Project

Introduction

As most of you already know i was thinking of creating a 2.0 16v fiat seicento......looking at the conversion, its already causing a few issues and wont be straight forward... but im still giving it a go!!

I need to work out how to get the hub / drive shaft combo sorted.... brake callipers + lines need to be worked out, and then the most important, keeping the rear end on the floor when braking!! as i didnt realise how light these cars are with nothing in the rear...

Ive got a T reg seicento sporting with 12months MOT and 6 Months tax, so this is a good base to get started on.

So far the car has been gutted, and im in the process of cutting out the wiring i wont be needing.

Im off on a 300 mile round trip tomorrow to pick the engine up, and then the battle of fitting it in will begin!
Its dizzy, the engine runs a de-cat, no lamba, and the FP early ecu. F20 box..Any ideas on the figures/gains? For £40 its worth a giggle!!

Kirk looked mega confused when you sed your not runnin a lambda... hes requested an ecu number bud he can give you a more accurate idea when he knows!

Lol its the earliest XE and they dont have a conection for a lamba in the wiring loom, i assume that the pin in the ecu (if it has one for the lamba) is just earthed..

Anyways the ecu is...

BOSCH

0 261 200 185 FP

and also has GM 90 299 569 on the label.

The standard FP ecu is the early 156bhp one im lead to believe.

The car is running the larger 3bar blue injectors, standard cams, straight through exhaust, with no cat, and single large silencer at the moment.

If you could get a rough idea if he could sort something out, and then as soon as its running i can take it down so he can have a look / play.

ill show him this post tomorrow bud!

he'll 99% definately be able to sort SOMETHING out and tbh if its business related he'll definately have a look but i fear your definition of play and his are to VERY seperate concepts ;)

Blueprint is the sort of business where you hand over your car, your keys, an idea of what you want and to complete the package A BLANK CHEQUE.

without out promising too much (as i dont know whats involved) he'll see you right he's probably forgotton more about these Vaux engines than the engineers ever knew!

ECU details forwarded mate... as it stands he says you should still be running a lambda with that ecu then a look of slight confusion glanced across his face just for a second! imho it might be worth just rechecking the ecu plug layout just to quosh any possibility it should have one ... just my opinion to maybe save some setup issues later

ive had a few XE's and the cosworth ones dont come with lamba plugs in the loom anywhere. I do have a spare manifold with a lamba in if needs be, but my previous nova ran without as it was only needed for emissions, and with the engine being so old, it wasn't fitted.

Still ran fine tho...

Update for today......

Busy dodging the rain and painting....(not ideal but the weather is going to be cr*p for a while apparently)

Heres an update on the car... tomorrow im hoping to get the engine sat in the engine bay for the final time :D..

There will be a few things holding me back from completing this week, no driveshafts, im missing a connection on the fuel rail, a small part of the engine loom, and a load of other little bits and bobs...

I hope to have the car drivable in the next two weeks.. (pushing it i know... well pushing time and not the car lol)

Ive treated the engine to a lick of paint, and also the rest of the engine bay.. new clutch kit, copper fuel lines and other general bits and bobs... I havent bothered masking off anything on the block, as i have a new rocker cover and other bits to fit anyhow...

Heres where i am now...

***Cheers to the chappie who advised me on the 5bar MGTF fuel pump... its been fitted but was a nightmare to do lol***

and going and going.... lol. Should be good, would like to see the torque steer on it :D

EDIT: very impressed with the speed of progress.

lol cheers, il try and get a few videos of it when its all up and running :D
Torque steer will be bad as the passenger shaft will be smaller in length than the original seicento shaft lol... although not as bad as it will be if im lucky enough to find a limited slip diff...

Seicento Espresso edition ;)

Problem with painting the engine bay seems to be it looks shinier than the rest of the car now :)

Trax is five weeks yet, sure you'll have it sorted by then (y)

Your engine doesn't use a chain, does it? I know two people that have had Vaux chains snap on them because of oil starvation...

The car is going to be resprayed when i get chance (wont be before the show sadly... so prior appologies that the car is a bit tatty... but it will be sorted once we know its worth doing)..

The cambelt is belt driven, rather than chain.... which is good in a way, but it just means that ive got to be careful of the tensioners as these are the weak point on these engines... but to be honest the parts are dirt cheap to get hold of if anything was to go wrong...

On a plus side, when changing the clutch, i noticed that the flywheel has been upgraded to the lighter vauxhall one at some point... so will rev a bit better :D

terry. you mad bugga. i spose i shud of realised that once i measured the engine and the bay and said "yeah, it'll fit, jus about, how do you like your manifold in yur bumper..." that you would have blitzed it!!!!! realy sorry i havent had time to help, or a car to ge to you, but as of tuesday that'll be sorted, so i can come and put out welding fires for ya lol. btw the gear selector looked just like i imagined, lol scrappy. when you gonna b ready to measure up for drive shafts?? and hows the healight?

Haha alright mate!! good to see you joined up!! Picking the punto up tomorrow aint ya?

Anyways some bits look like scrap heap challenge lol... Getting there though, although having issues with engine mounts yet again. Im on mk2 engine mounts as of yesterday, and finishing them off today as the shafts lined up differently after making the mk1 rubber mounts solid (packed with window gripper)...

Looks like there will be a small prob with the short shaft being on a small angle.... its not extreme so i might get away with just having to replace the CV joints more regular than usual... not a biggie really...

Here's yet another update... so far the engine mounts have been remade, and the engine sits 100000 times better than it ever did!!

The driveshaft (small passenger one) is still going to sit on a slight angle, not ideal but there isnt a way around it,,,, other than putting the engine in the rear... and im not doing that lol...

Im measuring up the shafts tomorrow and collecting new inner and new outer CV joints, ready to be fitted... tasty £400+ bill.. not :(

To be fair i dont want to cut corners here, and want to make sure all the parts there are bang on.

Half of the stainless exhaust system has arrived, although the £60 exhaust flange was supplied in the wrong size... 3"ish rather than 2.25" so a bit of modification has had to be done....

The engine now sits fine, and has minimum movement on the solid mounts... when really ragged around it still doesnt touch anything at all... although still its a damn tight fit...

We have temp fitted the bumper to see if the engine is hanging out the bottom.... and its great!!! as you can tell by the pics, its in a great condition...

Its been a good day today, so im sure tomorrow something bad will happen to make up for it...

Heres a few pic's....
