Seicento My 2.0 16v Seicento Project

Introduction

As most of you already know i was thinking of creating a 2.0 16v fiat seicento......looking at the conversion, its already causing a few issues and wont be straight forward... but im still giving it a go!!

I need to work out how to get the hub / drive shaft combo sorted.... brake callipers + lines need to be worked out, and then the most important, keeping the rear end on the floor when braking!! as i didnt realise how light these cars are with nothing in the rear...

Ive got a T reg seicento sporting with 12months MOT and 6 Months tax, so this is a good base to get started on.

So far the car has been gutted, and im in the process of cutting out the wiring i wont be needing.

Im off on a 300 mile round trip tomorrow to pick the engine up, and then the battle of fitting it in will begin!
To be honest, I'm very supprised.

My intake on my 1368 goes about as far back, I had to reomve the sound damping and rear plastic tray connected to the bulkhead.

My exhaust manifold also seems to be about as far forward as yours, and it's about as close to the chasis rail by the timing belt.

I would have thought it looked a lot bigger! It does seem to sit a little lower though and a lot higher though.

Sure if i saw it in the flesh it would look a lot bigger though.

Keep up the good work and progress. Any chance i can maybe pop over sometiem to see it?

Cheers,

Kristian

Yea your welcome to pop over, although its in a far from presentable condition at the moment haha...

A lot of the engine hasn't been fitted in yet, like the top part of the throttle, induction side of things (which we will have to modify) and then all the other bits like coil, dizzy, pipework...

It is very wide also with the gearbox, and the fact we had to remove the left horn with the grinder...

Its worth it though!!

You work at immense pace!

Really hope this gets finished, and not abandoned when you find something is going to cost to much.

The most expensive thing now will be the shafts, and hopefully not much more else (other than the respray)...

Cheers for the complements all on the speed, its just the two of us working on the car, so were quite impressed how far we have got in the last 20 days.. Especially as were stuck outside in the rain, with limited tools.... but it needs to get more like a car asap as my friends sick days are running out ;) lol

Good progress as usual with you on this thread (y)

Engine REALLY fills the bay doesnt it, will the bonnet close!

Jordan

Close fit lol, has about a 1cm clearance on the bonnet,... although with that said its better than the common Nova 2.0 16v conversion, as i had to mod the existing internal bonnet support to get clearance on the cam side...

You could remove the bonnet catch and use the rally style ones at the corners of the bonnet. It would possibly give you another few CM's to play with. I'm not usre if they are MOT failure though.

Looking in the pics it seems a bit close for comfort ;)

Thanks

Was going to be using bonnet pins, but as the engine wont budge at the min the normal bonnet will be fine... time will tell

If you do need them see about getting some of the AeroCatch ones, they look 100x nicer imo. Also they are black and sit almost flush so would help with the standard/sleeper look. They come up cheapish sometimes on ebay.

Can anyone advise me how the standard rad attatches to the car? Is there a panel that holds it, and if so does is it bolted in or welded (as i have removed it and cant remember lol)...

Basically im re working the cooling idea by running a new 1.1 rad at the front with fan (just ordered) and then only running one rear 2.0 vectra rad...

The front rad will be ran using the normal thermostat and fan setup, and the rear will be ran as a manual switch set up...

As only having the one rad in the rear i can mount both the rad and the fans closer to the floor, meaning there will be more force pushing through the fan and out through the vented floor.. (vented to the rear due to air flow)...

Think this set up should work :D as there is room for the standard rad...

If its the same as mine the rad has a stubby bit on one end which slides into a circle in the bodywork on the drivers side with a bung below it which lines up and should push in.

Theres then a bracket which goes over the top hose outlet and bolts to the front (slam panel i think) in the middle but from inside the engine bay.

Hope this helps, been watching the development of this and very impressed with the pace!

Cheers, sounds like im missing everything haha, so il have to get the welder back out and build something haha...

Rad should be here friday, so should be plumbed in at the weekend...

just a little loop bracket that hooks around the top water pipe towards the bonnet catch

So it just hangs in theory?

**cheers for the fuel pump info in the other thread**

Any idea which wire controls the fuel pump (+)

As in the wiring from the top of the pump..... as i have fitted the pump in the tank and failed to check... need to know what colour to hack into when fitting the vaux stuff lol.

Bit late but the rad on my Cinq:

The fan is on a bracket which bolts onto the back of the rad (which may be a problem for your clearance).
There is a flat rubber doughnut which goes over a stubby round bit on the opposite end to the hoses and temp sensor, the rad/fan assembly is then pushed into the bit of metal behind the corner of the bumper (as mentioned).
The right angle bracket (also mentioned) goes over the top hose connector before the top hose goes on, and this has two bolts into the back of the front crossmember.

You could probably remake the bracket easy enough if you can't find it but if you're welding you could always put it on the nearside where the aircon usually goes (I think all Seis have a screw in tow hook further up than a Cinq one so this wouldn't be in the way?)

Ah cheers, looks like our rad will need fitting more to the right (well passenger side), so will have to get building... appreciate you taking the time to take the pics!!

Few pics of the day... managed to fit the throttle bits in, and thought id see if i had room to fit the standard air intake... it fits but i wont be able to use it as i wont fit the MAF and air filter in... Just shows the size of the engine now haha...
