General Here it is, officially the new Panda

You can't buy one... literally.

They stopped selling them years ago, you can have a Polo though...which is significantly larger than the new Panda but I seem to recall you were looking for Jaguars so small enough.

At this point unless you want to buy a Toyota Aygo X or a Hyundai I10 or Dacia Spring perhaps everything is bigger than the new Panda.

The new MG is positively ginormous... actually bigger than a Jeep Avenger when a tape measure is used.
Im still tempted by a Jag but the cost is as silly as most more mundane new electric cars have got. I hope the Pandas might just see me off. If not I expect to have an electric power washing machine on wheels - adequate for my needs. I will likely lease one - the cheapest one available if its just for shopping. No gargae for that is can stand outside so a cheaper hose too. Its the environmental impact of a supercharged Jag that have stopped me so far, its unjustifyable. I don't use the car that much any more and for a few trips to Manchester or the midlands to visit family or trips to the coast the Panda remains perfect. Its settled to 46mpg and more on a run so even economy is acceptable. I reckon if its nursed, an electric conversion to give me 100 mile range would be acceptable and possibly cheap enough. If any of our Pandas misbehave I show them my bus pass and tell tehm tehy will be ignored. Oddly it works quite a lot ot stop the misbehaviour. Lol

Officially on the UK site.. no pricing or trims yet though... Maybe next quarter?

Horrible great lump. Just becasue it says Panda on the side deosnt mean its a Panda. I wonder how much the fancy colours add to the price too.

Careful, you might offend some on here who believe this one is somehow as much a Fiat as every other Fiat before it ;-) lol

I wish it was an FCA design / continuation of the old one, but I've come around to accepting this is the direction we're going to have to go down with 'Stellantis'.

Ok I might try a test drive just to confirm I am right!

Fiats have a feel which I like and a Fiat badge on a PSA product doesn't make it a Fiat. Sadly while it may be a fine thing in isolation I can't see it feeling like the Fiats we love so I may look but an unlikely to own one. You are right it is inevitable its the future way, as are the BEVs. Cars as we knew them are going to be a thing of the past. CHarcter will be reduced and they become just transport from A to B, and possibly fashion statements. As I can't give a fig about fashion it leaves me stone cold. We will have to wait and see what that means. Personally I hope it means a much more environmentally acceptable approach to transportation. Longer life cycles more effort to reduce the used of virgin materials and much greater efficiency. Cars and their culture have been a bit wasteful and pointless, but its only now that this is being exposed. Characterful motoring is going to be different. Those who liked left field and unusual cars are going to have to change or ecome dinosaur drivers in every sense.

If they follow the usual Stellantis play book the most challenging colour will be Free...so probably Yellow.

Then the more boring ones are cost options..with the nice colours being the most expensive at about 650.

White was 250 quid on a C3... metallic red 650...green free 😂

To be fair I'm out of the race for one as I need another car and want to keep current one so will probably end up being a few years before the C3 gets replaced.

I just had a look on the Fiat site. With hte 500 its Orange thats included and White (CLearly the most posh and luxurious colour ever, is now £650...
I hope the 3 white Pandas we have have just increased their value!!

As my daughter just said, 'clearly they have a load of Sicilain Orange paint in stock at the factory thats about to go out of date' The thought of loads of orange 500's is an odd one. Its not been the most popular colour for cars, amny think its horrid. It is supposed to be the safest colour though.

In terms of car recyclability in general, I remember when I got a version of the Panda workshop guide (digital version from the early 2000s) for the 169 Panda I had... It had a full technical description of every aspect of the car, including describing the metal lines / design lines...

That had extensive guidance about each and every material and how it could be recycled.. and yet, we have scrap yards of cars sitting out, rotting in big yards... and then eventually just crushed into a cube. Seems wasteful to me.

Apple had this fancy robot years ago that could disassemble an iPhone down to the last component for recycling. It looked impressive but at the same time, didn't surprise me that we had the technology to do it at that point. Last I heard, they ditched that because it took too much time / effort to maintain... Shame - if they can't manage it with consumer electronics, I don't suppose the car industry can with cars.

EVs are surely worse... the batteries simply aren't recyclable or repairable and the lithium is a rare earth mineral. I'm not sure there's enough lithium on the planet to cater for every vehicle on the road in the UK to be replaced... let alone globally, for centuries to come...

But of course... I think governments and car companies know this. I think they know that ultimately, it will settle out to using EVs only where it presents an actual benefit to the planet and life. E.g. big cities with mass congestion.

I was crossing the road today in the city centre though, and heard the whizz of the all-electric bus go by. Usually I brace myself (driving or walking) for the wave of horrible diesel fumes when busses go past. I purposely breathed in, and sure enough, nothing but fresh air. That's nice. It's nice to feel the benefits where they are needed most. They have a place, but they are by no means suitable to replace ICE.

Yes I agree there is a clear need for electric cars in some areas, as there is a clear need to reduce the use of fossil fuels or emiminate it entirely. EV's however have other impacts that are going to be difficult to overcome and manage and we just dont seem to be able to see it. Stop the production of high speed and high powered cars now. Its far more fundamental than that we don't need these things. This could be done tomorrow and would have an immediate impact of a substantive nature. One has to ask why we cannot do this as part of a proper stategy. When we finally get that waste is killing our world and do something the future will become better for those who will face it. Making and using stupidly overpowered and heavy vehicles is worse than anti social in the light of what we now know. While people have a choice they will continue to enjoy wreckless lifestyles, and ultimately why not. You dom expect national leaders to lead on imkportant and fundamental matters changing the future is in their hands much more than ours.

I look around my garden and there are quite a few trees and bushes I dont want. Years go by and they are still there for purely environmentl reasons. I don't know why I bother.

I'm not sure if they decided to actually build a load of orange 500s..usually they seemed to build most in safe colours and supply to dealers and it then gets the options spend on most cars sold above 0 immediately.

It's also ensures that the lease companies who are very risk averse when it comes to what colours they allow so you can't hurt the resale have to pay for the "optional" white, black or gun metal they favour.

When we got the C3 despite the green being the free colour we had to wait for it to be built and shipped because there were no green ones in the country.

A lot of valid points that all show the dealers in an unfavourable light. I would ahve had an Orange Panda but family Panda Nut REALLY put their foor down on that. If it becomes a common colour it would spoil it for me though.

I don't think it will, the Free colour for the C3 Aircross was power orange a colour which I love...

It's the least common colour by a margin as most people don't want that sort of thing.

I think the lack of care from councils and police and government with things like MOTs plays a big part. I mean the amount of old diesels I see, where the owner thinks it's cool to allow the entire rear of the car to be completely black soot, and at every take off, a huge cloud of black smoke everywhere - stuff like that, why are they not policing it? Also, modifications that make the cars worse... we're in an age where police could have hand held devices that are able to plug in at the road side to a car and expose any cheating or dangerous / emissions heightening mods... straight on a recovery vehicle and scrap yard - and the beauty is, they could charge fines to fund it all and make a fortune whilst cleaning up half of the problems.

Instead, we have dreadful things like ULEZ which is enforced. Granted, in Central London, I see the point. Although it doesn't really phase the owners of the V12 supercars or Chelsea tractors in any case, more the working people that probably have no choice in many cases but drive there. I think expanding that is a huge finger up to working people if nobody else, what sort of attitude might they have now about eco initiatives having been fined multiple times per day just to get to work and drop the kids off, you know? It's all nonsense strategies which don't seem to be working to fix the problem anyway (by their own admission)

Because of BEVs, all cars are getting heavier and handling is getting poorer on all but the expensive makes. Visibility is getting worse. I was speaking to the tyre technician at NI's largest car franchiser site on Monday, he commented on my Michelin PS5 tyres and said "99% of the cars I see in here, even those getting their second set of tyres, are fitted with the nastiest Chinese tyres, absolute death traps - I wish more customers had your attitude", can you imagine how these extremely high powered, instant power BEVs will cope when they're in the hands of more consumers (who opt for cheap tyres) - imagine how they will affect accidents with other cars, pedestrians and property... the extra weight and crappy tyres can only result in more accidents.

I think national leaders do too many back handed deals to get where they are and then they are slaves to their 'friends' by the time they get into a position of power. Oh, and if they speak out or go against the grain, expect to read about some horrible scandal in the newspaper in the coming days, and protests for their resignation. Crazy - and we're not even the worst country on this topic! There are so many worse.

Look at the bright side though, I'm sure like myself, most people in your family, circles and work probably do recycle, probably do drive as carefully as possible, probably do opt for doing things that care for the planet when they can , within reason. There's too much negativity online and in the media - sometimes it can get the blood pressure high. Sometimes best to just boil the kettle, sit back and realise you can only do your own little bit.

Btw, I wanted to trade my 05 Panda in 2016 for a bright orange example... I had the same reaction from family and friends (sadly!) haha Fiat committed to no more grey cars, so I look forward to seeing the new models in a full spectrum of non bland colours...

Im just relaying what it says on the Fiat website in the 500 configurator. Stellantis rules! NO MORE GREY! Fiats will be colourful. I agree with your sentiments and its probably to get as many £650s as possible.

From what I remember most cheap cars only offer one "free" colour these days.

It's just the shift from making it flat white to something most people would pay not to have that is new 😂

I have the 1998 brochure for my Punto cabrio and at that time the Punto was available in over a dozen colours now you’re lucky if you get a choice of 5 colours which usually consists of black, white some metalic grey/sand colour and a light metalic blue which is only slightly blue and quite close to the metalic grey, then maybe one actual colour!

Progress.

In other news stellantis issued their finances for the first half of the year and it’s not been good news.

While fiat apparently continues to be their best brand by volume, most of that is being driven by places like turkey, Brazil and Algeria. Their comments on Europe is to say the sales had remained stable, that is to say there had been no growth despite the reorganisation of the brand.

Given it’s now over 6 months since the 600e was first announced and i still have not seen one on the road, how long is It going to take before the new panda actually makes it to uk roads? Given their push in other markets such as the Middle East and South America and Africa
Will we even see the new panda in the uk?? Do they even care about the uk? It remains to be seen.

One of the things to come out of the poor performance of stellantis as a whole was the possible sale of Maserati which has cost them millions, they have not just failed to make money but they’re a lot way in the red.
Also Lancia which pretty much only sells cars in Italy may also be for the chop.

I think fiat will be ok they may die off in the uk given the way things are going. As for stellantis as a whole, it is still early days but it’s not going well, despite claiming something like $9bn savings from the merger and shared technology. That allow hits a little at just how wasteful PSA and or FCA were before the merger

I'd not expect European growth at this point the new cars haven't hit yet...so you'd expect business as usual or slight decline.

The American arm of FCA was a **** show and needs to be sorted...they left too many old cars on sale too long not surprised it's causing pain now.
