They didnt even clean it properly they did a shocking job!!

to be fair i'd rather clean my own car than have a Fiat YTS monkey clean it with a gritty sponge and swirl the paintwork.....

I always take my car in clean as possible this makes it a bit better for the mechanics to work on (and a pack of biscuits on the passenger seat for the mechanics never go amiss)

I booked mine in at Grays today. Quoted £220 for the 18,000m service.

Thing is, i was hoping to book it for the 1st year service which is due in oct, but when ask how many miles (15,000) she said it will need the 18k service. Am i being ripped off?

That's about the right price, which is what i was quoted, but i told them i was not paying that price and that i was quoted (genuinely) £160 by the service manager earlier this year when the car was in for some warranty work. Mine goes in at the end of this month and it should have 15K on the clock by then. Phone them back and get them to drop the price, phone other dealers and get price from them then phone your local one back if you get a cheaper quote.

When i was on the phone to Warrington motors and they gave me the price i nearly fell off the couch and had a heart attack, so they said if you can get a better price then phone back and they would see what they could do, but none could match fiat ayr's price, though they did come down to a more reasonable price.

What is classed as a low mileage service ? Anything under 18k or does it have to more like under 12k??

9K low mileage service

low mileage services have been discontinued

Are you sure cause when i phoned them up to book mine in i spoke to three dealers, Ayr, Chapel House and warrington motors and they all kept asking about mileage and saying if it had done 9K it would be a low mileage service.

Have they recently stopped doing this?

I've got my GP booked in tomorrow for it's first service. 15,000kms in 6 months.

I'll report back on what they charge, for the benefit of my dismal Australian audience. :)

How did you get on?

Can't remember what I paid for for my first service.. think it was $300 something..

Got a quote for second service at about $400-$500, which seems reasonable I think :chin:

sydney is a expensive place to live is it not?

Every where is expensive nowadays - fuel is more expensive in HK and the UK for example, taxes are ridiculously high here, so it all depends.

Hi luvduv,

I had been super busy the last few days but put a reminder in my calendar to post my outcome here.

The first service was $308 all inclusive. I also got a 500 for nothing as a loan car for the day.

I dropped the car off at FIAT/Alfa Parramatta in the morning (8am). And got straight into the 500 on the way back to the office (the back of my house). The 20 minute trip turned into 2 hours, as I went via Cronulla. :) The 500 is a hoot to drive. Pity it's too small for my needs. I'd probably trade the Punto in for it if I didn't need the extra boot space.

The service was all good. I mentioned to them that the rear doors were almost impossible to open, the service guy told me there's a technique. I looked at him sideways and said "since when do cars have a door opening technique?" Then I asked him if he could demonstrate it to my (on my car) so I coud show my wife, because the only way she opens the door is from the inside.

He tried. :) And tried. And admitted defeat. Turned to me and said "We'll get that repaired for you in the service. Sorry about that."

Hehe.

I purposely didn't mention the rear brakes sqealing when applied in reverse. I didn't mention the front end clatter and knocking from the well known steering rack issue. But when I got the call to pick up the car, he mentioned those things to me and said the rear brakes are normally like that but we can add a shim to surpress the noise.

I said that would be great. Then he mentioned the steering rack and told me he would have done it today and it would have been ready but even though the car is ready to be picked up, he'll have to order the rack in and we can get the rear brakes shimmed up too.

I haven't had a chance to call him back to book that in. But I felt that the service there was great. Sounds like the price of it was pretty much bang on. But I left there knowing that I didn't have to whine to them about all the known issues these cars have, they pretty much pointed them out to me when they called me.

As far as I'm concerned, they passed the test.

Good to hear it went well - pity its a bit too far for me to go get mine serviced there.
