Technical Exhaust Backbox Corrosion Issue

In my local dealer there's a BNW 100HP with a single red stripe along the side, reduced to £9,xxx. It looks very very good.

The silencer on our 500 is badly corroded too. Been into our local dealer today and they agree that it is premature and have agreed to tell Fiat what they think. So i've just spoke to Fiat customer service and have opened a case with them. I just have to wait for the outcome, but are'nt feeling too hopeful.
I work in a main agent myself (not Fiat) and feel this is a real issue, as despite only 1 year warranty on the exhaust it should at least last until the first MOT.
And how can Fiat only offer 1 year on their exhausts, yet Kwik-Fit offer 3 years? Everybody else with this problem get in touch with Fiat, lets bombard them with this fault. They really should be doing something.

I had a 2 year old golf and took the exhaust off it to put a s/s one on and it still looked brand new. A friend of mine had a jetta gti 16v had same exhaust on his car for 7 years. looks like mine will only last another 9/12 months cars only 20 months old

Yeah, at £250 for th etrim & exhaust I think I'll try my luck with the Marelli one, should last longer than the OEM. There's always powerflow to call too.

But first I'll wait & see what Fiat UK say.

I would suggest going for other aftermarket product if you have to pay Fiat for replacement. I am using Ragazzon for my 1.4 100HP. Built in quality and perfect fitment. Sportier sound than the OEM.

A bounce of Euro but you'll stick to the true sound!
Worth every penny!

I'm baffled by it.

Pipe Down! :)

I just had a stainless steel back box fitted this morning. The original is over 3 years old (but only 15,000 miles) and was beginning to come apart.
The replacement is a stainless box I bought off here from Neil "Surrey Labs" last year. I'm told it fitted well, sounds much the same as the original, but maybe slightly fruitier, is straight through - give or take a few bends - and has a lovely oval tailpipe.

Just had a call from Harry Dando's Fiat in Chipping Sodbury, my car is in being serviced today.

Apparently the exhaust backbox is "very badly corroded", by all accounts it's only just holding together. The guy on the service desk is going to have a word with Fiat UK even though the part is not under warranty as in his opinion it's unnaceptable as it is only 17months old.

Anybody else had this flagged up on their service?

Act 50 the exhaust once every 6months and it should last forever!
