hi i have just done an oil and filter change on my van its the first oil change ie 20,000 miles or 2 years the van has done 11,000 miles now.... the question i cant reset service counter so will i get any lights coming on in the dash and what are the problems. will it go into limp mode? or anything else thanks

In addition to the service interval counter there is also an oil change one. If the oil change counter is not reset eventually the vehicle will go into limp mode.
My handbook says "ENGINE OIL DETERIORATED (MultiJet versions with DPF only) The warning light starts to flash together with a message on the display (for versions/markets, where provided) when the system detects that the engine oil has deteriorated. If the warning light flashes, this does not mean that the vehicle is faulty, but simply informs the driver that it is now necessary to change the engine oil as a result of regular vehicle use. If the oil is not changed, when a second deterioration threshold is reached, the warning light also switches on in the instrument panel and the engine operation is limited to 3000 rpm. If the oil is still not changed, when a third deterioration threshold is reached, the engine is limited to 1500 rpm to avoid damage".

Check the oil change interval by selecting MODE with the ignition ON and select SERVICE. You can then toggle between the service interval and the oil change interval.

hi ray i have done as you said and it has shown two numbers one says oil 17091 mls and the other says service 18740 mls are these numbers counting down to zero or are they counting up to a pre determined figure ps what i did not mention is this is a camper that has only now done 11000 miles thanks for your help

They are counting down to zero from a start point of approx 28000 miles. They should both be reset after a full service which includes an oil and filter change back to the service mileage interval of approx 28000. I had an interim service and health check and only the oil counter was reset. The service counter was not reset as the fuel and air filters were not replaced.
You may read that your driving style and number of dpf regenerations will affect the oil counter but I am not sure that is so and it may only take miles into account. One thing for sure is that there is no sensor that is sensing the actual degradation of the oil.
The counters can be reset on the Fiat Examiner system and also on multiecuscan software plus the appropriate interface cables.

It is worth knowing that there is no time interval for an oil and filter change except 2 years maximum. If an oil change is carried out then the time to the next one is two years. This means a service and an oil change are not necessarily required at the same time. I guess most motorhome owners will still continue with the old regimes of a minor service annually and a full service every two years. Where did you get your 2 years / 20000 miles interval from? My handbook has 30000 miles / 2 years service interval for 2.3 models with oil and filter as and when required by the display or a maximum of 2 years.
