sweet car man!! may subscribe to this :) gonna look forward to some updates :p, and just an idea or an opinion, have you thought of say dropping a C20LET(?) turbo motor in it, or are you keen on keeping it a 1.8 and doing as much as possible to it ?
either way it will be a monster for a 1.8 :p

The C20LET or the Z20LET are standard engines in the Coupe... so if i went for either of those i might as well get a Coupe Turbo.. be cheaper on insurance as well...

But wheres the fun in been normal

The 1.8l is a powerful engine, and isnt used as much by the Astra fan boys, they all go for the 2.0T & 2.2.. whereas the Corsa drivers use the 1.8 and Turbo charge it...

So i wanted to be differnt and researched Super Chargers.. the Eaton Supercharger from the Mini CooperS fits the Astra and with very little work, WORKS!

to get the most i will need manifolds, cams and such, but it will literally "Bolt On" and Work... (on a low boost....)

is this gonna turn into a thread like brins lol

No... Brins is a Turbo... this is a Supercharger =P

much easier to sort out...

I just need to buy a bigger cam belt to go to the Supercharger pulley, the Supercharger then only needs custom brackets making up..

ive got plenty of piping to connect the SC to the Throttlebody, and i can source a 10psi dumpvalve pretty easily..

once everything is sourced, it should take about 1week maximum to set up... (y)

Some pictures from my day out to Whitby today...

It looks great, dont you think a dump valve will sound a little silly in a Astra?

Not when im in front of them...

In seriousness and it wont in a Punto?

the dump valve is there for engine protection,.

The supercharger will run at between 1-8psi at 700rpm to 6500rpm.. the valve will be there for incase the pressure hits 10psi, which the engine cant cope with at prolonged periods of time...

And why will a dump valve sound stupid in a Astra?. There fitted AS STANDARD to the 2.0Turbos

Think he means the blow off valve :p

Astra looks nice!

Same thing are they not? both release pressure build up in the system before it damages the engine.

Its just to stop high revs over compressing the system, and to stop the throttle body causing excessive pressure when its closed...

Not really necessary though, Superchargers general can accommodate excessive back pressure

soz russ, i didnt mean for you too take offence or anything, im not a wiz kid at the mechanics of a car yet im afriad, is a dump valve the kind of thing you hear in a evo on need for speed? lol as you change gear you get that tusshhh sound?

I just thought it might cheapen a really nice looking car, i just dont get impressed by it unless its on a speed beast , but i supose if your car needs it for the speed upgrades your doing it wont look or sound out of place (y)

Dont worry bud, i wasnt taking offense (y)

a dumpvalve/blow-off-valve releases excess pressure built up when the throttle body closes.. like during gear changes or reduction of engines speeds.

this is because the Turbocharger is still creating a compression while the throttle is closed, so a dumpvalve lets this pressure go into the atmosphere (or recirculate) instead of breaking the throttle body..

Superchargers are different to Turbochargers in the fact they are belt driven from the cambelt compared to exhaust gasses.. this gives them an advantage of having near zero lag...
It also means that compression alters with engine speed, the higher the RPM the higher the compression.

when my throttle body closes the system should reduce the pressure with engine speed, and recirculate within the system, but a dump valve would be a safety measure to stop any damage (better safe than sorry)

Im no expert, but google duck blow off valve :p
I always thought the noisy ones were more of an addition to turboed NA cars or modded turbo's, i'm probably wrong though :p

they are brilliant laughs...

they are just Duck Call whistles that have been taped onto dumpvalves...

B.O.V or Blow Off Valve is an american term for Dumpvalve.

the stupidly loud hissing ones are aftermarkets with external trumpets built in.. you can buy quiet and subtle ones which make a slight hiss, like on some diesels.. this is the kind i want...

I would love to go for the sleeper look, but cant having a coupe style car...

sleeper look, not so much... subtle until you put your foot down... theres something else. ;)

Sleeper look is for small cars like Corsas and Ibiza's..

This car should have similar performance to the 2.0T

the 1.8l in mine is the smallest engine in the coupe, so you pretty much cant do sleeper, nothing gives it away as a 1.8l either, they are identical to the 2.0T externally
