Hi all,

I noticed a burning smell after a drive yesterday, popping the bonnet I can see a hose has split (photo below).

Please could someone let me know what this hose is, and whether or not I could tape it up while I wait for the garage to look at it?

Many thanks,
Richard

Just had to replace the pipe on a 1.1 Active Eco. That is the 4th split breather hose I've swapped since Christmas! (I know that because I bought 5 pipes from Autodoc in December, to use up a credit note, and I've only got 1 left, which will be going on my own 1.1 in Spring to replace the glued-up and taped one that I bodged when I last serviced it.)
This one also needed throttle body seal (was in two parts) and a serious de-greasing of the inlet side of the engine, subframe and throttle body.
Not seen this particular car in a few years, so no idea how long its been a problem, but it had an oil leak advisory on the last 2 MOTs, and I can't see oil coming out anywhere else.
It was also missing the spring clip from the front of the airbox, which probably helped kill the pipe and seal.
Definitely runs smoother now. And no oil leak advisory on the new MOT.
Result!

Just had a visitor drop in with...
Jerky throttle and hot oil smell.
There goes "my" breather pipe that I was saving for my 1.1. Guess I'll be placing an order for a few more then.

Its an epidemic.
