Think I just posted this in the wrong thread, I’ve just removed thermostat stuck in boiling water no movement whatsoever, anyway when I’m replacing coolant do I leave the cap off with the rad tank while engine is running

They bleed very easily, if there's no problem with car, and you fill the system very slowly with both bleed screws open, shutting each as the coolant starts to flows out, radiator will be first

start the engine cap off, it may go down a bit, fill it Back to max

Let it idle until the thermostate opens and theres hot water in the radiator

Switch it off and let it cool

Put the cap back on, start the engine and run up to temperature

While hot and pressurised loosen the bleed screw on the heater pipe, some air will come out, then some bubbles, wait until the coolant is flowing out and tighten back up,bits saved to do this while it's hot as the volume is small

When cold check the level, don't take the radiator cap off,, while the coolant is hot

Yep it not easy to spot

Black on here but maybe white as well

Here's the official instructions

It makes it simple if you fill the system slowly, as then not much air ever gets trapped in the first place

Does mention reving to 3K which I ignore and just check it after take it for a drive

Yep either follow mine or fiats instructions both work

The important thing is to fill slowly so only a little air gets trapped, makes the rest a doddle

Leave both loose

Fill slowly untill coolant flows out of the the radiator one

Close it

Fill until it flows out of the heater one one then close it

There's a little one way valve built into the genuine thermostat, I have seen some eBay specials where it's missing, as long as the thermostat fitted is the same they self bleed very well without any trouble

Ok, topped the expansion tank right up, ran engine for 30 minutes, temp gauge not going past the 1/4 mark, is that normal

Engine will struggle to get to temperature at idle at this time of year

Put the heater blower on 1 and hot, make sure it's blowing warm

Put some spare coolant in the boot

Take it for a drive, engine needs to do work

Keep checking it's never blowing cold, if it does stop immediately and top up

Should get to temperature in about 5-10 minutes

Well done, in sorting it

It's relatively straightforward, once you done one, first one always a faff

But still it's fairly easy to mess up, on these later engines

We have seen on here, more than once, cars not running right or the engine light coming on

And that's straight after the cambelt been changed at a garage
