Technical Speak from clutch pedal

I had the "pedal squeek" happening when letting the pedal up. I was convinced it was the pedal squeeking but after trying oil on the pedal mechanism it just kept re-occuring. Then on lifting the bonnet and listening with the door open it was loud from the engine compartment. Definately the clutch slave cylinder. I recorded it :(.

excellent post and most helpful video!

and thank you for confirming that you can indeed “hear a sound from the gearbox end from inside the car as the pedal moves” (my situation too) 😊

I shall investigate under my bonnet and see if i can see whether it is the same arrangement in my 2016 TA 4x4 (is yours a 1.2 and did you have to remove any plastic covers?)

Interesting and useful! So whilst the red rubber grease I got to put in the rod that the pedal pushes into the master cylinder did no good, it’s worth trying it in that rod that the slave cylinder pushes out. Also possibly on the pivot if the arm that it pushes shown in your video.
I’ll try it tomorrow in the daylight

Can I just check that yours is the post 2012 model?

It is a 1.2. The slave cylinder is visible without removing anything. Look down between the battery and engine block.

It's a 2014 1.2

Mice in the clutch release arm bushes or the seals dry in the slave cylinder.;););)

Update: ePER indicates that the 4x4TA has an externally mounted slave cylinder. But to be sure, go take a look. If you see a cylinder on top of the gearbox with a hydraulic connection at one end and a metal rod in a rubber gaiter at the other, then you have an external cylinder. If instead you see the hydraulic pipe going off inside the clutch housing, then it’s an internal, concentric one. Simples :)
That is my understanding but have not looked on my TA as it has, so far, behaved. I expect its due to start squeaking soon at 5 years old!

All the 1.2s I have had have the same external arrangement and the squeaking they all suffer to some extent may sound like the pedals, but it isn't. Its the slave . I have also found that the clutch release arm pivot in the bell housing gets stiff and some suitable oil based lubricant used on the top of the shaft works wonders and also aids squeak removal. Its always worth lubricating pedal pivots which have plastic parts involved. Using silicon lube which does wonders for squeaky plastics. It works also on our squeaking / rattling / creaking dash / instrument binnacle join and shuts it up for months. Some slave cylinders are made of plastic and some of steel. Any replacements I buy from here on will be steel bodies cylinders!! Much less likely to squeak. FIne scratching on the cylinder bore may not allow fluid past the seal but does make the rubber seal squeak. Im going to see if i can get a discount on 3 new slave cylinders.

For the benefit of the tape / post... not aimed at you, the Panda 2012+ is a 319 not a 312. The 312 is I believe, a 500. Im not sure where the confusion arose originally I did read about it somewhere ages back and I think Fiat started it before finalising the numbers.

Aye she squeeks. Shall I hear more, or shall I squeek at this.
Squeek again bright angel for thou art as glorious to this night over my head as is a winged messenger from heaven.

(William Shakespeare)

Sorry... Could not resist.
