Hello…
What is that loud, rotational, humming noise coming from the rear of my Panda 4x4? It’s been suggested there might be worn bearing inside the rear differential. Anyone had a similar problem? My Pandas done 84,000 miles, always serviced by a main dealer and never abused off road.

First can you eliminate road (tyre) noise? Are you running odd tyres on the same axle or different brands between front and rear axle? Then I would see if there is any oil in there (the diff)! My 4x4 TA does have some noise from the backend but it has never had me worrying about it.

Change the diff oil. Search very recent posts for the top up/ priming procedure first. Mine is just starting to make noise at 26k so its on my to do list. See in the 4x4 thread remarks about aporoved oil, ans oil manufacturers info. Its enlightening. This is another oil that does two jobs.

Hi Both,
I’m currently running different tyres, however those at the front are the same and those at the rear are the same; my rears are to be replaced next week as they are borderline legal! Local garage replaced the diff oil as per Fiat dictate.
Mm! What to do?

Recheck the oil level!!! The priming process / driving may cause the level to drop after some use. I wouldn't trust many places to be aware of this process.
