Technical Servicing warning light

Jeez, I wonder if there's any way to lower the costs of this, that said no one, QUITE LITERALLY NO ONE has ever had their 2nd year service any cheaper than that and no one has posted many many many many freaking times about how you can get your servicing done cheaper.

Oh where are the people who talk about getting their servicing done cheaper??????? WHERE ARE THEY!!!!!! THERE MUST BE SOMEONE!!!!!!

I honestly don't know why I ****ing bother sometimes :bang:

I know where I can get the parts cheaper 306maxi, but where can I get the labour cheaper? As you said about price matching with a independent, does this work?

Argh it's like all those thousands of posts where I've talked about how cheaply you can do your service just get ignored :bang:

For only oil, filters and spark plugs 200+ is highway robbery. Do what I did, buy your own parts, then go to an independent and ask what their labour rate is and ask the Fiat dealership whether they want to pricematch. Mine did. benefit is that over the 2 services I've paid for I've SAVED £310 on the prices that I was originally quoted.

How much did you pay for a 2yr 18k service then?

That I had to scan my invoice and remote all my details just to prove this when I'd like to think most people on here trust me enough to take my word for it is quite baffling.

I've stated time and time and time and time and time and time again that you need to contact a local independent, get them to quote you their hourly rate then go back to Fiat and say, well this is what the indi will do it for, what will you do it for? I've also time and time again stated the costs for the labour and parts also. Probably in this thread infact.

Haven't got the bill with me but as far as I can remember - new oil filter & oil, 4 x plugs, pollen filter, check brake pads & discs, clean a lubricate all hinges / catches, check / adjust drive belts, check & top up fluids. I was told that a Pop without air-con would be £20.00 cheaper?

The car has only done 14000 miles so tappets didn't need attention, but front brake pads are 70% worn so will need changing before long. I think I'll take your tip about next day brakes and get them fitted by a local garage.

Also included a hand-wash and vacuum and a free courtesy car (a brand new Panda). I could probably have got it a little cheaper but the garage is less than 2 miles from my home.

See my post from 2 weeks ago, just paid £190for the 2nd year 18K service at Grays in Warwick. A bit cheaper than £527.00

Not bad considering I didn't have to pre-order all the parts, £60.00 in parts sounds cheap though as Chris @ Souls service pack is £57.00 without oil which must be another £30-£40? I also had a courtesy car for the day too!

It looks as though Engineering500's dealer has quoted him the 36K service for some reason maybe?

I bought my parts in bulk and I purchased enough for 3 years old full services so the cost of shipping was very much offset by the fact that I bought 3 lots of everything. When it comes closer to the next service I'll probably buy stuff off the web. You can get a 3 of each filter (pollen, oil and air) shipped to the UK for 86 euros. Cheap cheap cheap :)

Maxi I guess if they dont want to listen to you let them be its their own money. I fully agree with the barganing system for servicing because 'stealers' rip people off soo easily, especially people who dont know anything about cars! I remember a VW tech telling me the timing belt for a VW had to be changed at 60,000 km!!!! I think about 180 pounds is decent for a full fat service (oil, filters, plugs) for people who dont want to bother with ordering parts like maxi. So for any normal service the maximum should be 180 pounds. It should only be more expensive if something more needs to be changed! (e.g. timing belt, brake discs, suspension, etc.)

As simple as that!

P.S. I am approaching 30,000 km so plan on having a service (my first one) in Greece end of August/beginning of September. I will give you guys a story on what was done, how it was bargained and how much it set me back. Should be an interesting comparison.

I had played the car idiot when i stopped by a dealer one day and asked him how much for a service and he told me 350 Euros for oil, filters and plugs. = ) He had also said that you have to do something 'special' for the first service of the Fiat 500! He must be joking.

we had ours serviced at 16K. now done 18K and service light on. how do you reset it??

Or buy Fiat ECU Scan for a lot less than £150.
True, but you need a laptop and a cable then plus the software.

I was actually thinking of buying the Sealey tool and offering a service whereby I send it out to people, but tbh I'd want the whole value of it as a deposit and I doubt many people would be up for that :)

Gendan (I think it is) do good packages of FES with the cable and three adapters for everything you're likely to need. I'd much rather buy a PC based diagnostic tool than a hand held tool these days, as they're much more powerful, and FES is regularly updated too.

In the long run, it's a sensible purchase, I bought Alfadiag when I had my Alfa - but it turned out to be the wrong choice, I should have got FES.

If I had a laptop I would definitely get a PC based system.

Well worth buying a cheap netbook or a second hand laptop, rather than buying a standalone fault code reader..

For the price of that I could buy the service reset tool and an OBD2 reader as well. 6 of one half a dozen of the other :)

Already got enough crap in my house without adding another PC to the mix.
