Does anyone know if electronic diagnostics should be done on a Fiat 500 service on years 1-3 when done by a Fiat Authorised dealer?

Hi,
the car will be plugged in anyway,
So expecting a written report could be considered normal,

Why do you ask?
My car has been serviced at a Fiat dealer for the last 3 years and they have said that they have never plugged it in. My car has developed an electrical fault so I contacted them to find out about stored codes etc and they said they only visually inspect the car on the services.

You would think they would connect the diagnostics to reset the service clock and make a quick check for fault codes. But maybe the service clock has expired (9 years) or was previously disabled. Presume it is no longer under manufacturer warranty.
What is the electrical fault?
Have you considered a forum member who can offer help you with their multiECUscan.

Even though it was serviced at an authorised Fiat dealership they’ve said they have never plugged it it. The Fiat website says that electronic diagnostics are done as part of every service so I’m confused as to why they wouldn’t do it. My car is only 3 years old and currently in with another Fiat dealership who have said it has an engine wiring harness fault. They haven’t been great and had problems diagnosing the car as they have only just become a Fiat dealership and said they don’t have the experience. I wish they’d told me this to start with as it’s been there for 5 weeks this time. The warranty ran out in May.

You have my sympathy. I see it is a 1.0 litre hybrid. If the diagnostics have revealed some fault codes it should point them to which part of the wiring the fault would lie but if the dealer doesn't have a good auto electrician it doesn't bode well . It is outrageous if it has been there for 5 weeks . DTCs don't tell you everything and requires knowledge/experience to trace through wiring faults . You really don't want to be paying them while they learn and may be just guessing at what is wrong rather than genuine fault finding . Are they thinking to change the engine wiring loom ?

You might be better off with an independent auto electrician but they would likely need access to the full wiring diagram for a 1.0 hybrid . That is something you should ask them before giving them the job. There is access on line to the FIAT e-learn that has descriptions and wiring diagrams that I have used myself for an older 500 . Not sure the 1.0 hybrid info is there too for the likes of Joe public . Here is a link

I am an electrical technician ( not auto ) and experience says it could likely be just one faulty connection in a multiway plug.

What was the fault/ issue that was seen as the driver ?. Did the the engine stop/ misfire ? did you get the engine warning light ( MIL ) ? have they said what fault codes they have seen ,if any ?

I am just curious and sorry I dont have a silver bullet fix for you

I feel your frustration when you see the supposed experts are inept !

Good luck
