I've been lurking around the forum for a while now, I thought I would post an introduction thread.
I'm Benjamin from Lickey End near Bromsgrove. I'm 21 and currently own a computer service company specialising in commercial clients. Most of the work we carry out are consultations and remote support.
I've wanted a 500 since I first seen the photos online a number of years ago. However I only passed my driving test in February 11 and that was only out of necessity.
I ordered my 500 on June 16th but as I'm in no rush I requested that the car not be registered before September so that the car would receive a 61 plate.
The car that I've ordered is:
1.2 Lounge (insurance is a killer at £1800)
Bossa Nova white
Extras: Fog lights, chrome mirrors, rubbing strip and the Italian stripe that runs over the car.
Is there any other members here from the Bromsgrove / Barntgreen area? I see many around including a White Abarth that's always parked in Barntgreen.

I went to the dealership today to confirm all of the paperwork that I will need to bring with me on Friday. I also managed to get a quick look at my car which was in the compound. There was approximately 20 of them there all white apart from one black bravo.
I'm currently in a bit of a bad mood though as when my Mother seen my car she's decided to order an identical car minus the fog lights and sticker. I've been waiting over two years to get this car and I wanted it to be somewhat unique and then she goes and orders the very same car. :bang:

Why are people on this forum always concerned with what other people think or own or whatever? You like your car how it is, isn't that the only thing that's important? If I see an identical car to mine it simply makes me think that the person in the other car has good taste.

If an identical one crossed my path it wouldn't bother me but having two identical cars on the drive arriving within a week of each other just annoys me somehow. This is my first proper car, I passed my test earlier this year and I've been saving for this car since long before that. For my mom just to pick one up around the same time will just take away the novelty. Plus driving the identical car as your folks drive is never cool.
I guess it's just a big thing for me to be getting a new car and it just seems diluted in a sense. Or maybe I'm just showing my immaturity :S

I wasn't going to say this, but your last line kind of allows me to. I think you need to grow up a little :)

There seems to be a group of people in the world who just HAVE to be different and you suspect if they were in the garden of Eden with millions of others, would probably feel the need to hack off a limb of disfigure themselves somehow just to be different.

At some point in your life you'll probably come to the realisation that your folks ARE cool and you'll wish you'd acted differently when you were younger. Whilst I don't necessarily want a Volvo 940 estate or a Toyota Hiace van, I'd quite happily drive my parents Peugeot 504 or their Saab 900 and my wife would love to have my dads Fiat 500f.

At the end of the day you've chosen a car which you thought was cool, the car itself won't be any different if your parents get the same one.

Kaulitz, I understand what you are saying - you want to "stand out" a little from your old mum and dad especially having saved for you first new car.

I have a lot of sympathy for you. I think we all have felt like that at some point over osmething or other, not wanting someone else to steal the limelight.

That said, ordering a Fiat 500 Lounge in BNW is never going to help you stand out these days I'm afraid!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the car, and live your life the way you want - just ignore the people who think thay can tell you how to live your life.

Whilst I don't know if you were talking about me, I would like to apologise if I came across like this. I was simply trying to pass on my experience of life so far :) I thought my parents could be horrible, but since moving to the UK I've realised how fantastic they are and I'd love it if in 30 something years I was like them.

February of this year I had a '08 Black Sport with the Italian stripe on the bonnet, the roof and along the side. A 1.2 BNW POP parked 2 doors from me with the same stripe in all the same places as MINE ! I was pretty out of sorts and told the OH how dare they buy a car and put stripes on in the same place as MY CAR ! I told her that I was going to have to sell it ! Car sat on the road for about a week - never moved - and then disappeared (thank God). :)

Personally I wouldn't be happy if there was another car like mine within spitting distance of me and would perfer to be unique. I would equate it to 2 'woman' going to same party with the same dress on. One would have to go home and get changed. I would suggest that you speak with your mum and tell her how you feel. I would imagine that if it was my OH she would gracefully cancel her order and buy something else or at least a car in a different colour.
Another idea is that if you were open to a different looking 500 that she might consider giving you a 'few bob' to purchase one so that she could get to 'keep' the 'cheap' one in BNW.
What can't she buy a Yaris or something granny like and let you drive the cool 500 ! Promise to sell her yours in another 3 years and you can move onto to something different like a 'Twin Air' / Gucci model / Abarth 500 or whatever.
I don't in least think that you are immature. Assert yourself. It was your idea to buy the 500 and you get to 'wear' it.

Infact I was very near to ordering Volare blue with two tone wheels however it was my mom who said that BNW and standard alloys looked best. I trusted her judgement as I was split between BNW and Volare blue and I had never seen Volare with two tone alloys so I didn't want to risk themcar turning up and me not liking it.
It all just seems to be a peeing on my bonfire a little but in the end I told her that it's fine for her to order the same car as me since I'm not so cold as to deprive her of the car she's fallen in love with. It will be ordered tomorrow, I'll try and work it to my advantage and try and get some mats and other bits thrown in for my car ready for Friday.

How is it peeing on your bonfire? You'll still have the same car and it'll still be just as nice :) You could always let her have the car that's just turned up and you could order another which is slightly different if being different is so important to you :)

I had a little look back through your earlier posts and realised that you're a bloke. I can understand that you want to please your mum and as any son would and can emphathise with your dilemma. But really if you're bringing a woman home to meet your mum and 'she' sees that you have the same car in the same colour as your mum - seriously dud - that wouldn't be cool. You will be spending your hard earned cash on buying / keeping your new car - if it was me I would 'nearly' buy something else. On the original post you have the italian stripe - you could get a 500 in a dark colour in a 'Sport' model - would that be an option ? Or even a Volare Blue with the 5o-spokes - that would look sporty...You could ask the FF or a mate for a impartial view - but a BNW Lounge with 15 inch multis - as a man I would prefer a POP with a set of steelies and no hub caps.

My car does still have the Italian flag running up the car however it's hidden by the plastic covering. The spec is exactly the same spec that I've wanted for around two years, i ordered it just before the end of the quarter just incase the specs differed with the new quarter.
I'm not really a macho kind of guy hence the 500 ;) After all I don't need a masculine car to compensate for any shortcomings.
It really is hard to explain how I feel about her ordering the same car, I'm sure it does come over as petty. I'll just enjoy mine and let her enjoy her car.

I know what you mean :) But like I said, your car will still be your car and will still be just as good :) Enjoy it for what it is and don't get hung up on the fact that your mum will have one that's similar :)

no no no... you can't have 2 bnw in the same house... Cold dark mornings you will head to the wrong car and curse, the neighbours will all point finger at you and laugh :)

Anyway since she chose your car's colour its seems fair for you to choose her cars colour. If this argument fails try my trusted 3 step strategy...

1) tell mum 500 Forum guys say the bnw paint fades quickly and vol-blue is better
2) if that does not work, tell her the 500 engine has had an oil leak and you made a mistake buying Fiat and then pretend not to use the car for a week
3) if 2 does not work - leave home

written in jest, but seriously dude 2 BNWs is a no no.

Arorat - welcome back. It's good to have someone onboard of the same mindset. Comparing Kaulitz's earlier post and his last one he's done a 180. If he concedes on this one - there's no telling where it will end up. And I thought the FF was about cars !
