I would guess that there may have been a period where cars got the new rear end but not S&S by the look of things
Yours does have the new rear end btw

Silly Fiat. I did wonder whether it was something like that, either running out of the "old" suspension components or not having enough S&S components.FIAT were a bit quick off the mark in announcing that S&S would be standard and didn't properly account for the demand, so back in January they announced that non-S&S engines would again be available 'for a limited time', hence some non-S&S engine cars built after 01/12/2009 have the Anti-Roll Bar.
Not sure how long the limited time is, but it is still available now...

That's what I meant thoughThey'll never run out of the new Suspension components, they just steal them from Ford![]()

Have you got smaller wheels on the new one, if so that could be the reason for the improvement?just picked my 500 up today and she has the ss sytem and the new anti roll bar ordered in jan and delivery today much improved ride compaired to my last 500
The new suspension is definitely an improvement. I suspect your cars suspension has loosened up a bit and the one that you tried was probably a bit new. My 500 is a lot nicer on its 16" wheels after a winter of hitting potholes and bumps and so on.Have you got smaller wheels on the new one, if so that could be the reason for the improvement?
I tried a new 500 with anti-roll bar it wasn't a much better ride than the one I've gotand not as good a ride as the Ford Ka.
Have been told since that I should try a new 500 with A/R bar and smaller 14 or 15 inch wheels to feel the improvement.
(I won't buy a Ford Ka because although it rides much better but doesn't look as good. How shallow is that.![]()
The original 1.4's DID NOT have the different rear end. The only 500 models which had the revised rear end from the start of production were the c and the Abarth. My mum has just bought a near-as-dammit new 1.2 Sport, so of course it will have the latest suspension. My sister got a new 1.2 Lounge on scrappage early last year, so I'll have to crawl underneath and check what suspension hers came with.
My question is... seeing that the original 1.4s always had an ARB rear end, did that setup change at all with the revisions? Just springs and dampers?
Are all rear suspension setups the same now (apart from Abarths etc.) ?
My understanding was that the original 1.4s had a rear ARB always, but I guess the "new" rear end is a complete transplant from the Ka.
Presumably all the old comments about bouncy rear ends etc. will be partially down to the fact that most 500s will be driven around by one person (female probably), and if there were one or two passengers in the back you would need extra springing and the ride might have settled down more quickly from new.
Not saying that the mods didn't need doing.....
Fair enough, you seem convinced... From reading stuff elsewhere I understood it differently.
