Could do. I ran mine in fairly gently until 200 miles.

I've also found something Dave said true - it seems to drink Selenia K faster than Halfords 5w40.

Maybe it's a dealer conspiracy to keep you going back for more. :p

I ran mine in pretty hard, with a lot of short bursts towards the redline, but was otherwise fairly normal driving which for me is brisk I guess. By 400miles I redlined it on purpose at least once daily. I did this every day until a 1000miles and then just drove it normally, which would probably include a bit of redlining anyway, thinking about it.

I ran mine in gently too for a bit, and then increased the revs gradually. I've been hitting redlining it regularly for a while now.

I wonder what goes in at the factory. They may even put a completely different oil in for running in.

My one isn't leaking oil either, it must be burning it.

Nope, Selenia 20K is a 10w40 semi synthetic, Selenia K is a 5w40 fully synthetic. The theory is a fully synthetic would last longer before degrading.

Ah ok (y)

I still don't think it's sensible to go for something like 18k intervals as you will be transporting particles around the engine to a certain degree even if the oil is alright. I wouldn't trust any filter for that long.

5W40 10W40 semi fully synth it really isn't going to make that much difference here :)

I've had less discussion about what oil to put in a dozen 100 grand gearboxes before :D

There's one school of thought that says you should put a crappy oil in when an engine is new as 'super' oils don't allow the components to run-in properly. I personally think it's nonsense but it's what some people do.

I would also run a new engine in for about 1000 miles at least but I guess manufacturer knows best (and seeing as it's in warranty :D)

Don't start the 'running in' debate again..

:)

20% off Mobil in Halfords at the moment. 5L of 10w40 (Super S) for £19.99 isn't bad.. (y)

You can if you wish, but it's not the recommended grade.
I'm using it in my 100HP with no issues whatsoever. The only difference between 0w and 5w/40 is that the former is ever so slightly thinner when cold - no bad thing for cold starts IMO.
