Seicento My 2.0 16v Seicento Project

Introduction

As most of you already know i was thinking of creating a 2.0 16v fiat seicento......looking at the conversion, its already causing a few issues and wont be straight forward... but im still giving it a go!!

I need to work out how to get the hub / drive shaft combo sorted.... brake callipers + lines need to be worked out, and then the most important, keeping the rear end on the floor when braking!! as i didnt realise how light these cars are with nothing in the rear...

Ive got a T reg seicento sporting with 12months MOT and 6 Months tax, so this is a good base to get started on.

So far the car has been gutted, and im in the process of cutting out the wiring i wont be needing.

Im off on a 300 mile round trip tomorrow to pick the engine up, and then the battle of fitting it in will begin!
25 et? Will certainly widen the wheelbase a little, but should fit.

Can't see the Abarth ones -- will take max 185 section tyres -- being much use except as interim, but they do seem to be easy to get rid of.

As a guide, some of the tubs run 6J 14s with 195 section tyres. Martin (130+ bhp 1108 tub) aka alanhelen is eating Rainsports...........

I think 15s and rolling the arches may be the way to go -- opens the way to Marangonis which are cheap -- you will eat tyres, methinks.

On a sei, i run 14x6 with either 185/50 or 195/45. Can't remeber the ET.

On the rear I have inner scrubbing one side, outer scrubing on the other.

On the front, one just fits with lock reducers, the other side scrubs like mad. I have remove the arch liner and pulled the wind out about 2"!

I have 4mm spacers on the rear, so balance the scrub as best i can.

25mm spacers on the front. The left side wion't be an issue, the right, it will hang a long way past the arch!

Depends on drop as well. I have 50mm with reduce bump stops.

I have 25mm spacers on mine, you can borrow for a trial fit at some point.

I'd want bigger width wheels than that as well

Kristian

That could be really handy... Cheers

Anyone know where i can aquire a rack limiter from?

Im having issues today with the gear linkage which wont fit in a million years, so am beginning to tear my hear out.... having to move the linkage internally into the car me thinks... :(

The handling on my previous nova was mint, other than torque steer... That was due to all the poly flex bushes i used, anti roll bar, uprated suspension and the fact the car had more strengh than standard... I will be doing the similar stuff to the fiat.

Today i realised the fiat is made out of paper rather than metal... the engine bay metal is paper thin, and my welders kept blowing through most of the time... sorted it out by using a really low amp welder, although had the odd blow through... The welding is strong but far from my tidy welding... its been a bloody nightmare.

Ive built a new left panel, and replaced it with some new metal.. its stronger than it was, but obviously not as strong as when the horn was in place...

Tomorrow i will start making the frame, this will be welded to most of the existing metal, and will get the car a lot stronger than the original set up...

Im far from finished, still got a lot of welding to do... :(

All the engine bay will be smoothed/filled for a factory look when done... il keep the post updated...

What are you welding with? looks like arc welding in some pics then gasless mig in others  Either way, the amount of weld you've put into some places there is probably alot of your reason why you were blowing holes everywhere.

These shells are galvanised like the rest of the range no? unless you clean the metal that doesnt help too (n)

Nice bit of progress though :)rolleyes: excuse the bitchin)

still very impressed with the speed this is moving along, loving the look of that rear cooling setup. where is it venting to, pulling air in the side windows and out the back somewhere?

That looks to be set up to suck up into the car. I'm guessing it'll then vent out the rear somewhere?

Might give the back end a bit more (albeit weak) downforce.

At the current rate it looks like it'll be finished before the end of August. (y)

Awesome project, I've always been tempted to do this on my Punto Sporting.
Anyway got a Calibra Redtop on the driveway as well C20XE Late type engine, got loads of spares floating around so if you need anything let me know, if not can put you in touch with the right people.

Looking forwards to seeing some progress.

Really impressed with how this has been motoring on :D

:Offtopic: i know, but are you on clubcalibra.net by any chance?

I'm not a member but just a stealthy viewer on there, i recognise that username ;) se2 by any chance?

I'm after a Cally myself as my daily runner, but all the ones locally are either a mess, or have had their engines nicked for corsa conversions :( there are zero callys for sale near me, and i mean ZERO!!!!, i've been looking for 5 months, lol

anyway, back on topic with the redtop conversion....

Good spot on the gasless. Its been a mix of gasless welding and an industrial 165amp turbo mig welder... which seems to eat through everything....

Im the first to slate my own welding, so no worries there lol... its ugly, but its strong...

The fans are a 'push' type.. the spare tyre well will be vented out so the heat should be passed through the hole, basically down and out... The pipework being copper should lose a lot of the heat taking a little strain off the two rads in the rear.... But with two rads we are having more water in the system, and more importantly more weight in the rear.

If im being honest. i wouldnt attempt it if its anywhere near the same engine bay size as what were messing with, its been problem after problem... everything been remade, even down to bloody gear linkages... which are proving to be a nightmare....

No not me.. im on migweb and pngclub as 'ST-Eater'

They are rare to get hold of tbh, there was a few on pistonheads when i was looking, but not local to me either, so we ended up just buying the damn engine...

Yep, I have a thread on here about lock reducers. I had then machinced in alu by a local machine shop in nuneaton.

I'll find the thread in a min

///edity - https://www.fiatforum.com/cinquecento-seicento/129018-reducing-steering-lock-who-how-where-when.html

post 25 has the dimensions

Il have a look on here in a little while, (busy lifting the engine mounts for the second time at the mo lol)

Although seeing as you may be local i might have to pick your brain once we have more of a complete car, as spacers, offset and rack limiters confuse me :p

I'm actually active daily on .com, but go on .net quite a bit as well, more active on .com though, a feel it's a better site, more active, better advice and members.

I have the same username and yes an SE2 it is.

What kind of Calibra are you looking for, LE? SE? Just C20XE? LET? This is aside from the conversion on your Fiat?

Let me know roughly what you're after and can give you some links.

I'm a bit confused with that - where is the air you're gonna push thorough it coming from? Side windows turned into vents? Or something else?

The fans will PUSH the air down through the rads out the hole in the floor. Its possible as its been done before millions of times... Using 306 air con push type fans.

if your using a vauxhall engine i know a guy just up the road from you who runs blueprint performance (has had cars in total vauxhall) who will tune it to the c*nting hills mate.
