Seicento My 2.0 16v Seicento Project

Introduction

As most of you already know i was thinking of creating a 2.0 16v fiat seicento......looking at the conversion, its already causing a few issues and wont be straight forward... but im still giving it a go!!

I need to work out how to get the hub / drive shaft combo sorted.... brake callipers + lines need to be worked out, and then the most important, keeping the rear end on the floor when braking!! as i didnt realise how light these cars are with nothing in the rear...

Ive got a T reg seicento sporting with 12months MOT and 6 Months tax, so this is a good base to get started on.

So far the car has been gutted, and im in the process of cutting out the wiring i wont be needing.

Im off on a 300 mile round trip tomorrow to pick the engine up, and then the battle of fitting it in will begin!
I hope the answer is an LSD, all the failures I've have been on the nearside, 1 drive shaft outer splines, 1 inner spines (ok 2nd hand shaft) and 1 hub.

I think my car is a torque monster, and the spool up is instant over 2K rpm, I'm tweaking the controller again as since the latests fixes it is a different car again

I suppose the reason I'm not having problems with drive shafts could be that I run 6psi below 50% throttle & I only get full boost at 95%. The time it takes to move the throttle to WOT could be softening the edge of the power delivery just enough to save the drive shafts.

No recommendations -- you're in new territory. But do take a look at the 155 hubs/shafts. They should be well up to it, but fitting is something you'll have to resolve. It could be that the 155 cups can be machined to fit the FIRE gearbox which -- if the hubs can be used -- means you could simply (ha ha!) shorten the shafts.

Just a quick update... managed to sort the engine out, although this is still in my friends gas works van (naughty)... and im trying to get hold of an engine crane asap... Also collecting the dreaded shafts tomorrow, some nice 300bhp ones, and seeing what can be done with them (if anything)... If i can get a fiat / vaux combo going il be happy, if not it might just have to be custom jobbies...

anyways heres the engine.... Its missing a few bits like selectors and the odd sensor here and there... Going to sort out a huge service as i wont be able to get to most things with the engine in place (eg cambelt, water pump).

Big update as such for today.... We now have a fiat that can house a 2.0 16v... Theres a lot of structural work that needs to be done, as you will see over the next few posts, but for the moment we have been just cutting away stuff to get the engine to fit...

The shafts line up, and by the looks if it we can get the gear linkages to fit (internal cavalier shifter)...

Anyways heres a few pics... (were only in the basic stages yet, and will be making the car solid again)

we have had to cut away some of the front panel as you will notice, which may cause an issue with lights, but were not worrying about that at this point.. were just more concerned on getting the engine in and running....

Its not the easiest fit...

So far we have had to remove the drivers side horn section, removed the rear lip on the bulk, and had to trim a bit off the part the lower passenger side lower arm is attatched to...

All this will be welded, and there will be a new bar fitted across the front for extra strength. We will also be adding the strength back from the horn section with extra frame work using 21.5mm tube with a 3mm thick wall.

I nearly bought a redtop corsa the other day, I'd forgotten how bad they handle though so after a test drive i walked away.

Saying that Im looking forward to seeing more progress on this. There'll great engines for wiring up lol, very simple!

Wish you'd used a fiat engine at least though :p

From what I've read an oil filled redtop + gearbox is about 180kg. Thats comparable to other mass market 2L engines of the 90s.

Does anyone have any info on what the 1108 FIRE + box weighs? - ETA Found a linky (on this very forum!) to the FIRE 1108 weight ~110kg for engine and box, and the box weighs about 35kg.

So that means you're adding about 70kg to the car in front of the front axle. I think you're gonna need some weight in the back end to bring the handling back in line.
