I have a 2013 Ducato multi jet with comfortmatic gearbox. When I went to move it it came up as gear not available. With ignition on the gears selected and I could hear the linkage moving. As soon as I started the engine it came up as gear not available. I took the bottom engine cover off and tried selecting gears and noticed fluid coming out from between the gearbox and engine. It appeared that the clutch slave cylinder was leaking which is mounted in the bell housing. I am living in Ireland and tried finding someone to replace the slave cylinder. The van has only covered 9000 miles but due to the age I thought it best to change the clutch whilst the gearbox was out. Every dealer I contacted did not want to do the job until I eventually found Galway Truck and Van centre which is a Fiat Professional dealer. They have had the van now for 2 weeks and it is still not fixed. I have been told that they could not pressurise the hydraulics and have sent an email to Fiat asking advice but have not had a reply. Anyone else had this problem

2009 model with same symptoms, which is how I found this forum. With engine not running we can select gears, and hear linkages moving, but when engine is running the transmission warning light flashes and any attempt to change our of neutral is met with beeping and gear unavailable message.

It has no problems prior to being parked and not driven for about 6 months.

Probably worn clutch actuator (hydraulic valve or whatever it's called) out due to leaked hydraulic fluid (small cylindrical reservoir with dot4 fluid).
You can test this by opening clutch fluid bleed nipple and apply some pressure to the fluid reservoir. I just sacrificed reservoir cap - drilled hole in it and attached rubber tube with a hand pump at the other end. You can also use multiecuscan's clutch bleeding function.
If nothing comes out of the bleed nipple, you have a worn out clutch actuator cylinder which blocks passage of fluid to the cylinder.

Here is mine.. I don't think it's supposed to look like that. It's all worn out to the point of blocking that small groove which allows fluid to enter cylinder from reservoir. Although only the plastic part if worn, I could not find replacement for it. Also the seals can not be purchased separately.
So I replaced whole unit - around 700 euros on ebay (Part nr. 8001063895659 or 71751001) and some 2-3 hours of work. Always keep an eye on the fluid level and fix any leaks if you have them.

Also, be careful, there is high pressure hydraulic line (40bar I believe) connected to the clutch actuator. You need computer to depressurize it first before removing anything.

See the attached PDF guide for the comfortmatic gearbox.

Hope this helps.

Can you please send me a pic of the bleed nipple . I am having trouble locating it. My fluid was empty so suspect a small leek somewhere but would like to try bleeding first.

I know this was a while ago but I wondered if you got it sorted & if so what you had done.

cheers
Chris
