Hi, our Hymer on a 53 plate Fiat Ducato base is struggling to find some gears. We are told by the garage the part is not available but will not tell us what part is required. We cannot find reverse or 5th gear and it is difficult to find first at times. Can anyone help with either pictures of the underside of the same age and model van so we can see the gear selector rod etc or technical drawings of what maybe needed?

Has anyone else experienced this and managed to source parts?

Any help would be gratefully received! Thank you in advance ☺️

On the bottom of the forum banner you've got a link to the forum ePER, FIAT's spare parts catalogue.

The search window is top left of the screen. You can browse by models and categories, or search with the VIN number, but as it is a Hymer, it is possible it won't be recognised.

There are several diagrams for each category, you can swipe on the bottom to see the others

Is the base vehicle an x230 model with the VIN reading ZFA230........, or an x244 with VIN starting ZFA244........? The x230 has reverse selection below fifth. From your description I suspect the earlier x230 model, of which production ceased in 2002. On an even earlier model movement across the gate was by moving the selector shaft in or out of the box, with the shaft moving into the box when selecting fifth or reverse. I am speculating that wear in the selector mechanism is resulting in insufficient inwards movement of the selector shaft. Perhaps some adjustment may help, but that could make engaging first gear even more difficult.

Thanks for your reply, our VIN number is definitely commencing with ZFA244. Would you know what this could mean for our issue, please?
