Technical Ducato 2.8 i.d.TD electricity issues

Hello all,

I am currently far from home with my motorhome on 2000 Ducato 2.8 i.d.TD basis. During the trip, some odd issues with the electricity started: firstly, the dashboard light disappeared along with majority lights of the driver’s side of the vehicle (marker lights and taillight; headlight remained functional). After a day or two, glow plug indicator started blinking occasionaly (relay sound could be heard from the glovebox). After a few days all these problems diappeared and everything was fine for a week or so. Currently, the problem reappeared in a slight different way: dashboard light is gone, driver’s side headlight, markers and taillight are gone; instead of glow plug indicator, brake fault indicator is usually on. Any thoughts? All the light bulbs are good.

There is probably a connection somewhere that isn’t good. On a friends it was somewhere deep under the dashboard.

Always check the earth straps first though, use a jump lead to make a temporary connection between battery negative and a known good earth.

It is easy to state the obvious. Relating the symptoms to a fault is often a process of elimination.

All of the items listed are related to the various lighting circuits controlled by the ignition switch. These circuits pass through the 4 way connector on the ignition switch, but the sidelights are split at fuses F5 and F6.

The control circuit for the headlights is also shown as looping into the fusebox, before eventually reaching the column selector switch. The four headlight beams are shown as being separately fused.

This all suggests that there may be a problem with the fusebox connections, certainly worth eliminating.
