Hey,
I've bought one of the VAG COM 409.1 cables off flea bay and downloaded the FiatEcuScan Software but I'm having trouble getting it to connect, when I try I just get 'Com1 does not exist' and when checking the settings for available ports, none are showing. I'm not brill with computers, am I missing something? Is there a step by step guide of how to use this somewhere?
Cheers, Ant

Using the FiatEcuScan software can i reset the service now light on my 2002 stilo?

Whenever i have tried it asks me for an elm 327 connection i am using a vagcom cable at the moment

Johnson550 told me about this the other day - You need a KKL interface, a cheapy vagcom 409.1 cable will do the trick ~£13 on ebay. Either than or a homebrewn serial one.

Looks like a good program, just get us some selespeed CFC-209 and ME731 support for us non-sludgeburners.

Hi
is this cable compatible with a fiat stilo 2004 JTD.

This maybe a stupid question, but which is the better interface? Do both VAG and ELM do exactly the same job? Or can one offer more?

I have both, VAG and ELM. The ELM does more than the VAG in my case.

Elm - detects Engine, ABS, Power Steering when scanned(airbags too by linking to pin 13, not done on mine. Dont trust myself to mess with them)

VAG - detects Engine only when scanned.

Not sure is this is the same for everyone?

I've noticed that only 1.3 and 1.4 elm interfaces have been mentioned, but 1.5 seems very popular on ebay now. Would that be ok?

ELM v1.5 doesn't exist yet, so if you've seen it advertised, it's likely to be a Chinese cloned copy of v1.2 or v1.3. Cloned copies usually give problems or don't work at all with FES.

Is it likely that all cables on ebay are clones? They all seem to be around the same price.

Wow! Just installed it on laptop and with ELM cable diagnosed / fixed intermitant fault I have had for 4 years. Took me 5 mins to find the problem. Turned out to be a dodgy brake pedal sensor.

Amazing that 2 garages could not find the problem even though they charged me for putting an analyzer on. They must have cleared the error code but did not note it down and find out what it meant.

NOTE THIS WORKS WITH MY 2002 DIESEL DOBLO 1.9JTD

VAG is a "dumb" interface, what you put in comes out towards the ecu.
All commands, timing etc. must come from the software, thus more complex to write.
VAG is only for K-lines,ELM handles (almost) all common protocols.
ELM is an "intelligent" interface, it handles a lot of the protocol items by itself , therefore the software part can be simpler to write.

There probably are genuine ELM v1.3 and v1.4 cable/interfaces available from eBay. You'd need to get a recommendation from someone who's already bought one to know which sellers are genuine though.

I got mine from Gendan. They sell the genuine ELM327 v1.4.

ItaliaCheck is Gendan's own software for Fiat/Alfa Romeo but it only reads and clears fault codes. They sent me a copy of it a few years ago before it was advertised for sale.

Quick question: With the paid version of this software, when I connect my Nav+ to a 12v line without a relay will it cure the flashing mileage issue?
