Hi,

It seems that there are some ELM 327 interfaces which properly respond to all ELM commands but still cannot connect to CAN bus. I played with one of these interfaces and the problem was incorrect termination of the CAN bus.

Not sure, but I think it's Virtual COM Port drivers you need for the ELM327. Available from here:

Hello Yani,
afaik the Proxy Alignment Procedure will not stop the flashing odometer with a retrofitted Connect Nav - only a time delay circuit will solve this problem.
The Proxy Alignment only sends the ORIGINAL configuration file from the bodycomputer to original nodes that were replaced or which lost their configuration and need to be realigned again (i.e. a replaced instrument cluster ,steering column , climate control panel or door node.)
After the Proxi config. the Connect Nav will still be a foreign and unknown node found during the 4 sec. check , hence the mileage will blink without using a delay circuit.
If the rest of the Proxy Alignment procedure works that would be a very good piece of work you've done !!

That might be the case with Examiner, but I can add or remove any node from the configuration. I can also enable/disable the Cruise control light on instrument panel for retrofitted cruise controls which is also not available in Examiner.
I just wanted to confirm that the program will automatically detect the Connect Nav unit or I will need a manual command to do it.
Please also note that by adding the "delay circuit" to Connect Nav you are preventing its detection by either Body Computer or PROXI Alignment procedure.

I dont know how these things work technically but I have a connect nav+ retrofitted (followed ins on FF) and all the info shows up on the screen e.g. how many miles left in tank and all that sort of thing.

Does this mean I could re-program a replacement remote key to work on my Stilo. My current key has stopped working (remote locking).

a second-hand key can't be reprogrammed because the transponder inside has to be pre-programmed to match the PIN-code stored in your body computer.
Theoretically it is possible to read the eeprom contents of the processor inside the body computer and produce a new transponder by decoding the binary file with special locksmith equipment but that's a specialist's job....
A key ordered at Fiat will come pre-programmed and has to be stored in the memory of the body computer with the Examiner tester or other special equipment before it will work.

Ah what I meant was get a replacement key and transplant the transponder "grain of rice" and blade over to the working key unit. Then reprogram it to unlock the car with the buttons again?

yes, that would make things easier, the transponder would be already known by the body-computer , the blade would be o.k, i just don't know about the RF circuit board - i guess it sends it's own code nr. (apart from the transponder number which is read by the transponder antenna ring around the key lock barrel), i think this will have to be coded to the bodycomputer with a Examiner tester (or F.E.S.?)

Maybe someone already tried your option with F.E.S. ?

We have a 54 punto 1.4 sporting, the registered version
of FES and a Gendan Elm 327 genuine 1.3a chip unit
but can only connect to the engine ecu at present nothing else,
although it works fine on a 03 Stilo 1.8.

I have just bought a cheap interface off the bay. I will need to do a bit of soldering to link a couple of pins to Investigate my ABS but it should work.
ill update when it arrives . I have gone for VAG kk instead of elm (for reasons I cant explain)

I have already used an ELM which worked fine for the main ECu but it wasnt mine and I had to give it back.

Soldered pins 1 to 7 on my Cheapo Vag Com cable (8 quid) and got straight into the ABS with free version of Fiat ECU scan!

Front Right sensor inplausible
Front left open circuit.

NB you will need the elm for the main ECU but I tried that before and that works too
