General Fiat Stilo Abarth 2.4L 20v Turbo!

thats great news. you might be the first to fit it too. so it made no difference with yours being selespeed?

annoyingly they only engine that isnt compatible is the alfa 1.9jtd 8v M15 and the fiat 1.9jtd 8v M50 (mine :( ) the 8v mjtd and 16v mjtd share the same diff so can have it fitted.

The differential came today!

Re: Fiat Stilo Abarth 2.4L 20v Turbo Conversion!

Is there anyone out there that I could post these pipes too to have altered? I need 18mm cut off and then brazed back to the fixing plates in the same orientation as before they were altered. There is enough straight pipe to do this although is doesn't look like it on one of the pipes!

Found another way, cut the pipes off flush with the union, dilled and tapped the union to M16, bought some adaptors, 1/2BSP x M16 X 1.5 (mm) and screwed them in the Fiat union's. You will need to remove the fixing studs on the sandwich plate and replace them with set screws as you can't do the hold down nuts with a socket as the socket hits the new union.

A couple of pictures to show what I mean.

Thats some nice modification work there, i was going to offer to do the job when i got time but you've made a good job of it, theres not too much restriction on the ID after that is there?

Jordan

The ID of the original pipes are just under 13mm. Although the outlet on the new union is 13mm, the M16 part screwed into the Fiat unions goes down to 10mm ID, hope this wont affect the flow? All the pipe connectors I've bought are 10mm ID. The Aeroquip hose is also just under 13mm ID, I was advised that these connectors went with this hose.

Awesome work, just spent the last hour reading this in between customers lol

Look forward to seeing how it turns out, wish i had the money and time to do a project like this!

You'll have to bring it to some shows/meets when it is done, maybe an Ace Cafe night?

After buying quite a lot of parts brand new, which is a very expensive way of doing it (can't get secondhand Lancia Thesis parts in UK), I've just found a breakers on eBay in Germany that have loads of Lancia Thesis Turbo parts, and they ship to UK. If they don't have the part on eBay, you just let them know what you want and they confirm, with a photo of the part, what they have. All there prices are negotiable, and there quick to deliver. I could have saved myself a lot of money if I had found them earlier. Spent about £800 pounds with them so far and they have not failed me, all the parts I've had look like they have come of a very late vehicle and they have all been well packed. Not an advert for them, just someone to keep in mind!

So, if anyone is thinking about a turbo conversion, then keep this eBayer in mind.

Managed to get hold of this, bought it on the spur of the moment, but thought it was worth it, as they are he seats I wanted to put in the car later. Just need to either save to buy a full retail one, or just wait. Got it from Ireland for £303 including shipping, not bad considering the cheapest I've seen them for is around the £700 mark plus shipping!

you know the seats have airbag sensors in them? will you try and transfer them to the new seat?

I realise the existing seats have airbags and sensors, the sensors were always going wrong on the passenger seat! When I eventually change the seats, I will just have to see what is involved with these sensors and how they are fitted to the seat.

They make the Stilo without airbags in the seats, so I will just look on eper as to what is different between the two, it might just be just the case of changing the airbag ecu?? I don't want warning lights permanently light-up on the dash!!

Wow nice seats! you re-trimming back to match?

as far as the airbag goes, if you can replicate what the ECU expects to recieve back as a nominal reading forthe airbag, you can replace the link with something that gives the same reading, it may be a case of the ECU just measuring line resistance, in which case, a simple resisto MAY do the trick. Theres been many idea bounded around for this kind of thing but no solid find i believe

I looked into fitting those seats into my stilo and the nearest I got was some one telling me that you could fit a resister to the conectors under the seats but they never came back to tell me what resistance was needed also there is an airbag at the side of the seats so you will have to figure out how your going to get past that one ..fiat do a kit with these resisters in and they use the kit when doing airbag diagnostics I think ..that might be of some help to you ..

Thanks for that, I will look into it. I have already looked into the airbag ECU difference, and there is! There seems to be three variants, one for just airbags for the dash and steering, one for a three door with all the airbags and one for a five door. They did also remove the seat sensor on the passenger in later vehicles as they where a problem. I've got the part number, 51711815 (5WK43341 95080), and someone in eBay has one, but its in Italy and they want too much money for it. These seats are something I'll do later-on, so I think I'll just keep my eye on eBay for a cheap ECU as well as another seat.
I really want to get the rest finished before starting this! Thought the turbo conversion would be easy, how wrong was I!!! So I'm sure these seats will be just as hard? Just wished I was not such a fussy sod and want everthing to look OEM, might of finished it months ago then?

New parts are £23.00 inc VAT & Del, but what an idiot I was to buy this of eBay!!

Hey dax just a little tip for you ..the greek lads put the OCS mat under the seat and out of the way ..and as you say on later cars they did away with it completely :slayer:Alfa 166 front seats are also a direct fit into the stilo and are in leather :yum:

Fiat Marea 5 Cly 20V VIS cover fitted to the Stilo, Marea uses the same cam cover as the Stilo 5 pot so the fixing bolt holes are the same. Looks a lot better than the standard Stilo one! Although not too keen on the grey colour and wish it did not have the VIS on it!!
