How's it going then Dax?

Not too well, it's been sitting in my garage for a couple of months now waiting to find someone with a Fiat examiner to come a get the thing started, got so bored of waiting, and needing the car back on the road, have taken the turbo, pistons etc off and putting it back to original (engine only).

Leaving the new forged connecting rods in as well as the turbo camshaft. Without the examiner, I could not unlock or pair if you like, the thesis turbo ignition ECU, so I've given in, after all that initial enthusiasm and money, I just needed to get the car back on the road.

While I'm on, can anybody tell me where the airbag ecu is located, I was under the impression it was under the centre console, but I've taken that all out and there is nothing there!

you got so far as well :( what you doing with the turbo etc your taking off? keeping them incase you want to try again in the future?

The turbo and exhaust manifold went on eBay as they are relatively cheap and easy to pick-up secondhand. I've kept the rest, just in case i decide later, to try this project again!

Wow - thats all i can say. What a challenge - just skimmed through and seems like reinventing the internal combustion engine.

Please please tell us how much it has cost you (so far) My guess is 5 figures beginning with 1.

Would love to hear the conversation with you and ins co when they ask "...and any modifications to the vehicle Sir?"

Adrian Flux is the only co I know who will consider to insure it.

I bet it's not just the money but all the time thats gone into the research & building as this is the first time it's been attempted.

About eight months work and approx 10.5k although of that it was about £1100.00 for the Brembo's, £450 for the suspension £1000 for the seats. £1200 for the wheels and tyres, so the engine parts came in at about £7250 on the engine, of which the rods and pistons where £1500, exhaust manifold £350 etc.

I could have bought another car for that amount of money!!

Sorry to hear about your woe's, but did you think about getting the car trailered to someone like http://www.auto-integrale.co.uk/ who I am sure would have been more than able to get it started, they certainly have code readers. And being in Reading are not that far from you, Keith who runs the place is a top guy and very helpful with a real wealth of knowledge who i am sure would have loved to have contributed to such a project. He knows the 5pot engine well, keeps Trevors Lancia Kappa 20VT Coupe in tip top shape which he runs in the LMA series, and does a fair amount on Fiat Coupe as well.

Seems a shame to give up when so so close.

Aaron.

This is just as much an effort to get it back to original, I need the air intake pipe from the throttle body to the air box, ordered one from Fiats, been on order for about three weeks now, still not available, and they have no estimated time of arrival. Anybody put an induction kit on theirs and has this pipe to surplus? I need two really as my son is selling his Stilo Abarth soon and wants to sell the K&N Typhoon induction kit he has fitted separately!

Finally put the car back to near original, accept the forged con-rods.

Re: Fiat Stilo Abarth 2.4L 20v Turbo, Reversed!

Fitted Koni Sports suspension at the beginning, the drop is about 30mm, and its 'rock hard'. You can adjust it, but it seems to be going over most of the speed bumps!

I'm coming to the end of my turbo conversion of my Stilo Abarth and all major alterations have been completed, I was thinking it would be pretty easy, but for a novice, it was a big learning curve.

Some might say why bother! It has been said just stick the 2.0L 20V Turbo lump in the Stilo! Which I could, but that's not what I wanted to do, I wanted a Fiat Stilo 2.4L 20V Turbo Abarth, which is how I think it should have come out of the factory??

I wanted to keep this a completely OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), so it's taken some effort with cross referencing part-numbers between the Coupe 2.0L 20v Turbo and the Stlio.

I need help now, I notice that the 2.4 Stlio shares the same injectors as the normally aspirated coupe 2.0 20v and the 20v turbo's are different. Should I then fit the 20v Turbo injectors?

Another problem is the waste-gate electronic control solenoid as fitted as standard on the Coupe Turbo, it connects to the injector circuit unit, which I can't! so can I disregard this solenoid and fit a dump valve? If so, are there any that don't make a loud noise??

Come to the end, and its gone full circle! After spending a shed load of money and fair few months of my time, I have reinstated it back to near original. Mainly due to not being able to find someone with a Fiat Examiner to come to site and start the bugger! However, here is a list of what I did do in the end:

Compomotive TH2-1775 Wheels a Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.

Alfa Romeo Q2 differential

Koni Sports suspension all round with a 30mm drop

4-pot Brembo GT brake upgrade

Forged con-rods

Schumaker rear silencer

Sparco Milano Prestige beige leather front seats

Carbon fibre water transfer printing of all centre console plastic trim

At least I have learnt an immense amount about this car and now know what is involved in this conversion, if I ever wanted to start it up again!!

has anyone built a stilo 20v turbo?

I have a coupe 20v turbo and love the performance,gf has a jtd stilo and that is a fantastic car also. Just wondering if someone has t=dont a 20vt conversion into a stilo.

Just for intrest purposes really,i have tried to look it up and found alot have tried to turbo the 2.4 block but havent seen a 20vt conversion from a coupe yet.

Is it that difficult?
From reading many stated doing the 2.4 turbo route would required forged piston, coupe head etc.Im sure a heathy coupe engine to start would be a better base.

Understand the need to fit an intercooler somewhere and oil cooler and associated electronics. Just wondering why i cant find any on the net.

any info replie.

.s i wont be trying this myself just think a stilo turbo would be fantastic
