My air cooled 900cc 8 valve 4 cylinder bike made 90bhp at 8,500 rpm. The gearbox uses the same oil and it’s a wet clutch. Basically the oil gets a lot of stick. I used diesel spec Semi-synth 10-40 oil as it met the Japanese JASO MA standard.
When the valve clearances were checked there was no measurable wear and the engine was really clean inside.
Oil changes were every 6000 miles. Pretty fair considering what had to do.
So don’t dis the semi synth. It’s fine for reasonably high performance engines (approx 100bhp per litre in my case). The Fiat 1.2 60 will be fine with 10,000 mile but if it’s mostly doing school runs, 6000 miles would be better.
