Could be any connection or wiring in the whole airbag/restraint system, or one of the sensors themselves, more likely wiring though.
The system checks itself on each power up, checks all items (bags, sensors etc) are connected to the system.
Your error code is related to this test.

So check under the seats and around any other airbag...... the new steering wheel noise could be a clue because of the airbag (and obviously wiring) there

Or possibly need a new one of these?

Doubtful, that'll probably just detect (along with a seat pressure sensor) that a passenger is or isn't wearing his/her seatbelt. (just like the drivers)
It's going back to the used car dealer a week on Monday and they will diagnose it. I give up trying now as no one can diagnose it.

That is the diagnosis....

The B0111 is a standard Body code - Side impact module-Left Rear high and/or low circuits is short to ground or short to voltage

The -64 just narrows it down further and is fiat specific......so I've not much info on that code extension apart from the attached pic.

To say they've never heard of it doesn't say much of their experience.....

Think a Fiat MultiEcuscan will give more details?

Thank you. So I got the Yuasa, see above.

Do I circle with marker the date of installation on the back of the battery?
just keep your receipt. You have the the battery we have on our 14reg car Its 3 yrs old now and still does what it did new. A reasonable choice and the one I would buy.

There has been some talk of a 500 or two with similar. The affected sensor was behind the front seatbelt reel. Best let the warranty sort it. They will probably get a specialist to do it. Let them play with the pyrotechnics!

Thank you.

Yeah I will let the garage where I got it from sort it. No need in buying a code reader then either. Maybe I did waste money on a battery, but the garage this morning checker did say replace.. so who knows if they just wanted money or not. They quoted £140 fully fitted. I got the battery for £72, and paid someone £10 to fit haha 🤣 🤣 🤣

Airbag light's can be because of a disconnected bag, check the wiring under the seats (if you have seat/saide airbags).

Otherwise a decent scan tool will narrow down which airbag is at fault.

A dealer "narrow down" usually involves an hours labour to use their scan tool, and that doesn't even fix the problem that's unearthed. So a scan tool or the Fiat MultiECUscan can easily pay for itself.
The decent scan tool are MultiEcuScan and AlfaOBD. They are 100% trustworthy on FIATs. Looking at the multiecuscan.net website you will find which interface / adapter is required to connect to the airbag module.

I got myself the STN1170 bluetooth interface dedicated for FIATs and Fords for around 40 EUR 3,5 years ago, it connects to all modules, no extra adapters / cables needed. It works both with MES on windows and torque / car scanner on android. Of course can't do airbags or key programming on android.

Before playing with the airbag and pretensionners connectors close all doors, wait for some time, disconnect the battery, get back in the car, push some buttons on the dash to get rid of the parasitic voltage. The airbag module is very sensitive to voltage fluctuations. This is the most common problem of the airbag module error. Can be caused by a flat battery, a voltage drop when starting a car with a low battery, a short circuit somewhere, a bad contact on the airbags / pretensionners connectors.

This is NOT a FIAT description, stop messing, please.

The airbag system is too sensitive and too important to play blind. Or almost blind. Luckily the error is about the side airbag, not the front one, but still, no one wants it to get activated...

Chill out , if you read what I wrote: the B0111 is a standard body code, the -64 extension is fiat specific.

The codes/detail you've gained from your elearn system correlate with what I stated.

…and suggest a possible broken wire. While there are other possibilities, very often (in my experience) the fault turns out to be a poor connection (in any circuit, not just this case), or a voltage issue (either from low battery voltage or corrosion in the contacts if a connector).

Reading the Fiat specific code will narrow down the circuit, but maybe not the location of the actual fault.

The colour code:

And the set of all (3 LHD + 3 RHD, depending on production date) eLearn airbag docs. Of course only one is relevant to this particular case.

@Adam1984, you might take those and the previous table to the workshop, I'm not sure if they have access, so might be helpful.
