Technical Battery

Well I had a bodywork guy come to do some of my scratches yesterday, told him about my airbag fault, he looked at the battery and said it's the wrong type fitted, and the power is overkill as I don't have start stop, I have basic entry level panda Pop, he said the over power can kill the electrics in the ECU.

Is this possible?
If it smells like BS and it looks like BS and it sounds like BS........

You don't NEED an 027 battery (nor do I) and our other Panda works fine on a Lucas 012 with a piddling 45AH.

Why is it not so simple to find the right battery though?

I can't even find anything in the fiat panda handbook of mine?

I dont even know what amps to get?

Stick your number plate in Eurocarparts and it'll provide a list. Or ask ChatGPT.........but teh first question is, have you had the Yuasa 7027 tested? Is it defo dead?

For a 2015 Fiat Panda Pop 1.2, you'll want a battery that fits well and meets the specifications required for your car. The most common type of battery for this model is a lead-acid battery, specifically an AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) or a standard flooded battery. When selecting a battery, ensure it meets the following key specifications:

Key Specs to Consider:

  1. Battery Group Size: The group size for this car is usually 063 or 026, which refers to the physical size of the battery.
  2. Cold Cranking Amps (CCA): For the Fiat Panda, you should look for a battery with at least 400-600 CCA.
  3. Voltage: The standard voltage for most car batteries is 12V, which is what your Fiat Panda will need.
  4. Amp Hour (Ah): A battery with 40-50 Ah is typically a good match for this car.

Some Good Battery Options:

  1. Varta Blue Dynamic 063 (12V 50Ah, 480CCA): Known for reliability, Varta batteries provide solid performance and are often recommended for Fiat models.
  2. Bosch S3 063 (12V 44Ah, 440CCA): Bosch is a trusted brand, and this model provides good performance at a reasonable price.
  3. Exide EA640 (12V 44Ah, 440CCA): Exide batteries are durable and provide great value for the price, making them a solid option.
  4. Yuasa YBX3065 (12V 45Ah, 450CCA): Yuasa is known for offering high-quality batteries, and this model fits the Fiat Panda well.

Additional Tips:

  • Check fitment: Always double-check the physical size of the battery to make sure it fits in your car's battery compartment.
  • Warranty: Consider batteries with longer warranties for peace of mind. Brands like Varta, Bosch, and Yuasa typically offer good warranty coverage.
  • Maintenance: Opt for a low-maintenance or maintenance-free battery for convenience, as they require less upkeep.

You can get a recommendation from your local auto parts store or service center, and they can ensure the battery is a perfect fit for your Fiat Panda Pop 1.2.

Those batteries are completely different to what I have been recommended by others haha 🤣 🤣

So I have just taken it to HIQ Garages.

They did a battery test on it. Said the voltage am getting is about 13V but on their reader device it came up as red and Replace as he said the battery is about 9 years old.

So think this could be affecting the single airbag light illuminated on the dashboard?

I have Yuassa on all4 Pandas (via Halfords) I opened one of their silly accounts that you can close afterwards and got 10% they were already on offer and it made it as cheap as anything else. Honda used to use them and thats recommendation enough for me. I will check the model and spec I have. I also ahve a brand new exide spare. Removed from Pandabird 4 on purchase because I didnt know its heritage. Im certain its brand new now as it holds 14v for a month after charging. I must return it to PB$ next time shes here.

Thank you

Please check. I can get a Yuasa 5000 for £72 from GSF.

I am not sure about the earth strap though, think this will need replacing at same time?

Check it first. Ive never had a bad one on a Panda 4and the braided straps do clean up with a little effort. Carefully undo it and clean the gearbox connection. Check the date the battery was made!!!! Dont get sucked into buying old stock. These things dont improve for being stood up.

Ok so just get the battery for now then? My car has only done 59,000 miles.

So think this battery will be ok? I also went on Yuasa website and says this is also compatible.

If you decide to buy the new battery from Halford's, give it a good charge before you install it in the vehicle. They are keeping them for weeks / months on the shelves...

Batteries are best to be bought from local, specialized shops.

And as wrote earlier check the battery on a load tester, not an electronic one. Might only need a good charge not a replacement.

I just got the battery from GSF car parts.

Is it normal for it not to be in a retail box of any kind?

Thank you. So I got the Yuasa, see above.

Do I circle with marker the date of installation on the back of the battery?
yes. Put a sticker on it so you know.

My Yuasa came from Amazon (which was essentially directly from Yuasa themselves). Just a cardboard box. The 5000 should be plenty. Whether it clears your airbag light - dunno.

So it looks like after installing the battery, the airbag fault still exists, so was nothing to do with the battery, but at least I got a battery now that will last a good few years.

He checked the earth strap too and that's all in good condition.

Is Fiat MultiEcuscan useful to get, even if it going back to the dealer a week on Monday for them to diagnose the problem?

Thanks.

Airbag light's can be because of a disconnected bag, check the wiring under the seats (if you have seat/saide airbags).

Otherwise a decent scan tool will narrow down which airbag is at fault.

A dealer "narrow down" usually involves an hours labour to use their scan tool, and that doesn't even fix the problem that's unearthed. So a scan tool or the Fiat MultiECUscan can easily pay for itself.

I have just taken it to another garage.

Again they scanned it with a snap on device. And got the same error code as before. They have never heard of the code before.

Said need an auto electrician. But as it is under warranty with the car showroom I got it from. It's going back there a week on Monday.

Who knows. But I think my steering wheel is now making a whiring noise when turned.
