Hi,
I have a 1993 1.9td Ducato Camper van.
It had been sat for 3 months and I went to start it and it would turn over but not start, the glow plug warning light took a couple of minutes to go out. after a while I tested the glow plugs for resistance and found one was open circuit so I replaced it. then the battery decided to pack up, i replaced it . now the glow plug lamp goes out after 15 seconds or so and it turns over but will not start. the only thing I can see an issue with is the connector to the fuel filter, the brown and black wires this connector is broken but looks like it always has been, what is this connection please?
Thank you in advance
Pete

Those wires to filter head will not affect starting in the summer.
Look for problem elsewhere

It is not self bleeding.....it is 31 years old self bleeding was several years away in 1993

Does it have an immobilser?
Does the immobilser switch off?

Have you run out of fuel? Run low on fuel?
Changed the fuel filter?

Does it have a fuel primer bulb?

Is it the fiat engine or the Peugeot engine?
Yes I know it is a fiat but fiat fitted both engines, both 1.9 diesels

Have you ever had it running?
I have had the van 3 years, done a lap of Cornwall, been to Cumbria, Hull, done a good few thousand mile, it has always been reliable.
Does it have a fuel primer bulb? I am not sure.
Is it the fiat engine or the Peugeot engine? I think it is a Fiat, but I'm not sure, where do I look.
I am not good with Diesel engines, so I am a bit lost
It has not got low on fuel.
Cheers
Pete

Google image search fuel primer bulb

See if the is one on one of fuel pipes to or from filter

Are you in break down club , aa rac etc?

Check rodents haven't taken up residence in air filter blocking it

Post a pictures of the injector pump, especially the end that the injector pipes attach

Imobiliser????? Is there a light that reads "code" or a picture of padlock on dash that comes on when key on(not start) then goes out?

Hi, No there is not a immobiliser as far as I know, It looks like the alarm was disconnected years ago. there is not a pic of a padlock either.

CamperPete's vehicle dates from 1993, which was the launch year of the x230 model. Perhaps Pete can confirm the model by checking the fist three numbers of the VIN which would have the form ZFA230......... We know from a recent thread that later versions of the x230 had a crash inertia switch in series with the "stop" solenoid, which needs to be energised for the engine to start. Fiat badged 1.9TD versions of the x230 were fitted with the 230A3000 engine, or 230A4000 with cat. (Wikipedia) Again check VIN plate for engine type.

At the moment I do not have time to say more, but in my 2006 x244, the switch is mounted on the bulkhead near the battery. See attached photo. If such a switch is fitted try pressing the top of it.

Great point especially impact switch could be by the battery and be knocked changing batteries
