Hi all

Got a problem with my Punto. When i try to start it i get nothing - i'm getting the warning messages to say the EBD has failed and the ABS isn't working. I can't start the car - the immobilser light is staying on along with the battery light and a few others.

Any advice on what i can do?

My concern is that it won't start so its not easy to get it to my local dealer!

Help!!!

I'll bet on a flat battery, or a faulty battery, or a loose battery connection....
 
Just to update - when i turn the key once to the right all i get is the warning lights, the windows, the headlights etc - it doesn't "wake up" like it normally would - and then attempting to start gives me nothing.

The immobiliser light, the battery light, the ! light and the abs light stay on.

Now yesterday i did have to brake sharply and the abs kicked in. I got home and half an hour went out again and it was fine - only later did it die on me.

Any advice on what i can do? Also - would the local fiat be able to come to my house to look at the car? The problem of not being able to start it isn't great!

You could drive it yesterday... :confused: If its under Warranty the dealer could collect an imobile car on a transporter.
 
Hi, did you sort out the problem, mine has just done the same thing, the car is at a garage at the moment waiting to be looked out.

Well finally got the car fixed,:):):):):):):):):):):):):):) the problem was caused by an earth cable which is connected underneath the car to the gearbox, the garage which i use had a Fiat in last year with the same problem and they remembered it.
Had a new fiat lead fitted at a cost of about £40 and with the labour and VAT a round £100 was paid out.

Hi, I've just had the same issue which fortunately was sorted temporarily by the AA mechanic on the roadside - I now have to go for the permanent fix.

But one thing that's different is that now the power steering light is still on every time I start the car and the steering is a bit heavier when parking and it is making a creaking noise (but feels fine at speed). Could that be the result of nonsense readouts caused by the faulty earthing and the system now being in a partial shutdown of some sort, waiting for the errors to be cleared by the diagnostics mechanic, or am I really unlucky and have another issue?
 
Yes bad earthing could cause this.
I think the steering and brake errors will not self reset as those are very important systems.
make notes of all the errors stored, thrive the car for -2 days then check the errors again, compare which of the old ones came back... look into them further.
 
Thanks for your suggestions. I tried the car again today and it seems that it had time to think about its behaviour because everything has gone back to normal! No power steering message, no ABS, no annoying temperature beep upon start-up. And the speedo isn't randomly dying anymore either. So it looks like the bad earthing was the source of all of my issues. Will definitely get it sorted properly ASAP.
 
And as for the errors - I will still ask my mechanic to read them out and inspect the car for any further problems, just in case!
