Didn't someone suggest an app for the 500 manual and when ridiculed (a little bit) the point was made that the manual was at home and he/she was 300 miles away with a blown fuse or something.

Surely the same could be said for having the bulb app, as you never know when you might have to replace one when miles away from home.

Of course if you have the 500 handbook app then it will tell you the type of bulb, the type of oil, the tyre pressures, where to jack up the car etc. etc.

Yeeeees BUT, If a bulb is blown then you have the blown bulb as a reference. Hmmmm my headlamp is blown, get it out and see what it says on it ;) If you take a bulb out and go into halfords or wherever someone will be able to help you get the same bulb, or you can just look for the same number bulb as the blown one you have in your hand.

With a blown fuse it's far better to know exactly which fuse does the job and also the amperage as someone may have put a 10 amp fuse where there should be a 5 amp fuse.

When the W5W bulb for the numberplate blew, I simply took the old bulb out and bought an identical bulb to replace it......

I bet I'm the only person on the forum who has every sort of bulb (other than the DRL ones) spare and in the car :p

But what if someone just wants to buy a spare bulb for just in case. It saves them the trouble of having to do that:p

ps. You lose that bet, I even have the spare DRL bulbs (originals from when replaced with PIAA ones.) :p:p

Yeah but in theory your PIAA bulbs are illegal so you don't have spare bulbs, just a legal set that's in the car :p

/pedant :p

I have a warning jacket, telescoping wheel wrench, torque wrench, 10 litres of screenwash, 500ml of coolant, a litre of oil and probably some other crap.

At the moment I've also got a Punto Evo as a courtesy car though. Nothing in the boot of that. What if I go through 5 litres of screenwash!!!!!!!!

Pfft.

I've got;

Warning triangle
Safety foil blankets x4 (not joking )
Towing equipment
Fire extinguisher
LED blaze bar
Halogen beacon on top of blaze bar
Compressor
Tyre gunk as no spare
Towing eye
Screen wash

No spare bulbs or haribo though.

That's why I've not bought an iDevice for about 7 years or so. All the apps seem to be geared around inane crap like telling you when your arse needs scratching and so on.

On my Windows Phone I have a few weather apps, a Microsoft app which lets you download the images from bing.com, a last.fm app, a remote control for Windows Media Centre, a sunset app (tells you sunrise and sunset times and a few other things) and that's it.

iOs can do inane stuff, those you listed, and lots of other useful things too, with the bonus of lots of the apps being free. Android is still the most used mobile OS in the world though :p I much prefer it to the others, it has all the apps you could ever need, more handset options, it's cheaper, and it's more customisable! I get the feeling that Windows phones will go the way of the Zune, unfortunately...

I love the app marketplace for MacOS though, some very handy free stuff on there.

Yeah, the iPhone can do all of that plus a LOT of other stuff. I wasn't trying to suggest that the iPhone couldn't do anything I was talking about my phone doing :)

You couldn't be more wrong about Windows Phone :) Check out the recent Mango update which is pure win. Check out Windows 8. Check out the new update for the 360.

Microsoft is working on an app framework for the 360
http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/10/microsoft-reportedly-preparing-silverlight-like-app-framework-ah/
And you'll be able to control your 360 from your Windows Phone

From a business point of view you can use a Windows Phone to administer a Windows Server as well.

Not wanting to go even further off topic, but with Windows 8, your desktop will be hosted in the cloud (that thing Steve Jobs invented....) so if you come and visit me you can log onto my PC and your stuff will be there, if I've got a tablet in the loungeroom you can log on there and your stuff will be there too.

IMHO Windows Phone 7 is far easier and more idiot proof than iOS :) I had a play with an iPad for a good hour or so on Friday whilst I was helping someone update her WP7 at work and it was nice and all and the screen was nice, it wasn't nearly as intuitive as WP7 is and Windows 8 will be ;)
