Hi

The front wipers on our 05 Panda Eleganza have died. The first sign of a problem was when the wipers juddered to a halt during operation 3 weeks ago. The first thought was that the motor had died but the wipers continued to work on the manual and fastest settings, plus the washer was still good. However as of yesterday all settings ceased to work and the wipers are now completely dead. The washer has also stopped operating but the rear wiper is still good. All other electrics are fine.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to car maintenance but am planning on having a tinker with the help of a friend. If anyone has any ideas about what the cause of the problem may be, or any recommendations for where/how to look for the fault it'd be appreciated.

Cheers

It does sound like your motor has died but still worth checking the fuses first. If thats ok then as above...find a breakers or ebay for a replacement. Or splash for a brand new one...probably about 70 quid.

I had the same on mine, where they would only work on 1 speed, then not at all. I'm no expert on mechanics/electrics but as long as you have a socket set this is a simple job you can do yourself.

I have the same problem and i can't find the solution.

Fuses are good and i have tried 3 motors and all do the same thing. Also tried resetting the car but the wipers are not linked to the computer. Might it be in the stalks itself?

I can hear them clicking when pulling the stalks up or down.

Edit: the 2 other motors are used. I ran an extra ground from the motor to the body. (This was sometimes a problem)

Many thanks

I have a stalk unit from back when my wipers played up. A motor fixed it. I could sell you it if you want?

Taken from a 100hp but same part on all Panda’s

Ignition on.

Put your head by the brake peddle. Put the wipers on. If you hear a tiny click from the relay the wiring and fuse to the stalk is fine and the stalk and wiring to the body computer is fine.

After a bit of work the wipers are now working again.

The relays in the passenger compartment were clicking so it suggested the problem was probably with the wiper motor. I removed the motor and opened up the flat black panel to find a lot of excess grease on the conductive elements, as well as the presence of a bit of dirt and rust. I cleaned that up and reconnected but it still didn't work until a well placed thump momentarily restored it to life. I disconnected it again and opened up the rotor housing to find more filth and rust. I tried a bit of sanding and gave it a good spray with some brake cleaner then refitted, and... it worked! I might still source a spare wiper motor as the current one wasn't exactly in great nick, but it's good to be able to drive in the rain again.

As others have said, it's a nice, straightforward job, quite a good one for a beginner to start with.
