Petrol.. Or Turbo..?

Basically I've not got round to "Resetting the parameters".
On mine I've had to compromise on oil used.. So wanted to see how JUST AN OIL Change. made the tiny motor run 🤔

Punto noisier.. But running well (castrol)

Panda.. Sounded unchanged.. Seemed 'flat'. For @100 miles.. Then performance ok (miller's)

Yes.. I would Love to do the resets and get it 'optimised' 😊

(but a regular on here had a major issue doing the reset and wondered if it had killed the Uniair on an elderly TA)

So I am Confident in saying it's NOT crucial.. Even the service message times out..

Now there's a question, I'm not sure to be honest, it's definitely a petrol engine, I did think it was a turbo version but maybe not, how do you check?

Edit *Pretty sure it is turbocharged BTW*

Here's the details from the V5

Type 312
Variant PXG2B
Version EP5X2
Model Fiat Panda 0.9 Wild (85) Twinair 4X4
5 Door Hatchback
Colour White
Fuel Type Petrol
Engine Size 875c

As pointed out Gendan are the UK Authorised Distributors ( https://www.multiecuscan.net/Distributors.aspx )

Three extra points

1) Go with a cabled USB interface as opposed to Bluetooth especially with Proxy or Key programming work. Bluetooth can sometimes be iffy and this is the last thing you want when programming keys and the body computer. Bluetooth is generally OK for general read, reset and actuator operations

2) Personally I would go with an OBDLINK SX interace as opposed to ELM. A little more expensive but better IMHO.

3) Don't be tempted by cheap ELM kit off eBay or elsewhere. Some work, some don't. Gendan are very helpful and give good support.

The Gendan package covers all these three points!
I have never managed to run mes on the usb

Is that you tried and it failed? That would be the first I've ever heard of assuming you have setup correctly.
Tried many times and cannot get it to work. Its probably me. My long USB lead came with teh gendan leads so I must be doing something wrong. Theres useless, then bad, and some way further down is me.

This should not be happening and yes I'm often "useless" and it pisses me off.

So I'm assuming you can get Bluetooth connection ? If so then this is a step forward.

What is your OS, your specific USB device, etc. You may have one of the bad USB ELM devices!

So I had a look at the mes forum today regarding oil change in a petrol TA and the only thing I seen was that resetting the oil change was for diesel engines however the TA petrol engines require a uniair reset as mentioned by @varesecrazy above which is not an oil reset and is completely different from an oil reset, apparently.

Can anyone confirm/explain cause there’s not an awful lot of discussion or information about this, not that I can find anyway.

I‘m happy to buy the gendan bundle, as I’m sure it will be advantageous to have anyway, but just want to know what the procedure is once the car’s had the oil change and filter replaced, our car has done about 2000 miles now so I’d like to get this done around the 5k miles mark due to the short journeys and before the winter sets in.

Thanks

Tony

European owner posted useful info🙂

Access to Oil Filter is awkward..

I've done the same job on the Diesel.. Easy access by your knees

TA Is hidden behind motor and battery

Can you get to the sump plug without jacking up the car Charlie?

I was going to buy a pair of the halford car ramps for the oil change, I’ve already got the oil just need a filter and a sump washer, shopforparts fdo them for pennies, think the filter is Mann costs about £25 plus postage

I raised it.. ( Axle stands) As there was an undertray I wanted off

However I think the 17mm hex drainplug is just rearward of the undertray.. And the filter is accessed from above 🙂

I've not, so far, ever tried using my ramps with a Panda - I tend to default to axle stands for the flexibility they offer over ramps. However I suggest you try the stands against the car before you buy. Why? because many modern vehicles have such an overhang - front bumper/valance - that the ramps are too steep to clear the bottom of the bumper before the wheels are on the ramps. Many years ago I extended mine to overcome this problem and these pics may help you understand:

The piece of wood illustrates the ramp inclination before extension. You can see how the ramp would come into contact with the bottom of the Ibiza's bumper before the wheel started to climb the ramp.
Here, because I didn't quite have a paint that matched, you can see the bits I welded in to reduce the angle:

Do you use Halfords a lot? If you do, is there anyone you know in the motor trade who might vouch for you? I'm asking because Halfords will issue a trade card to folk involved in "the trade" - they issued me one on production of my IMI membership card and city and guilds papers - which then entitles you to quite worth while discounts. It's especially good on stuff branded "Halfords" and varies down to no discount at all on other stuff. At my branch you just take the item up to the counter and ask them to price it with the card. Discounts on batteries was especially good a few months ago when I bought a new Yuasa from them for our Panda, which surprised me as I thought I'd have to buy the Halfords branded battery to get the discount.

Many a car has lost a bumper because of this exact problem. Including my old 1993 Mondeo which had an RS Body kit on it. (a factory option) which hung down very low, went up ok with a little scrape, but on the way back down it basically pinched the bumper between the car and the ramp and tour it off.

The bugger with the old Mondeos was the bumper was just a molded plastic and the mounting points where attached to the back of it with a type of expanding foam so once you damaged the foam you couldn't glue the mounts back on. would have been made with a jig in the factory and no way to put the expanding foam into the bumper with it attached to the car, Most of the people in the Ford mondeo community at that time, had several layers of silkaflex from multiple repair attempts on the back of there mondeo and escort bumpers.

GUIDE now in misc. (as the Twinair is in 4 x UK Fiat models.. And a Lancia and an Alfa)

Thanks. I was playing about with the free version of mes this morning and I noticed that the oil reset for my car was for setting the UniAir and seemed pretty straight forward.

I'm going to buy the Gendam bundle but I might go for the Bluetooth version as I have mes installed on my MBA M1 in Wind 11 but I'm not sure if I can set the USB port to work with the mes software as I'll need to use a USB adapter cause the MBA doesn't have USB inputs and it might be a bit of a carry to get it all to work either that I'll just buy a cheap Win laptop on ebay.

Thanks, are axel stands easy to use? I presume that you need a trolley jack to use them or a pair of trolley jacks?

I've never used Halfords, ever, least I don't think I have but if I have it must have been years ago, I'm going to go in and have a look at the ramps at least though.

Just a thought. simple ramps like these aren't something that wears out - like say a hydraulic jack. If damaged it's pretty easy to see visually. Therefore I bet there will be used bargains to be had on the likes of eBay/Gumtree etc?

If you're looking at tools in Halfords then their Advance/Professional range is pretty good and, I think, guaranteed for life. I've got a number of their offerings and find them very satisfactory. I'd steer clear of their more DIY offerings if you are going to be putting them to any serious work though.

Another good value and quality outlet is Machine Mart - same caveat applies, don't just go for the cheapest option. Always worth giving them your email address as they do VAT free days from time to time and they'll notify you by email before the event. Have to say they've been doing less of this since the covid pandemic though. I've had some real bargains like this: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-ctj2qlp-2-tonne-quick-lift-low-profile/ which, vat free, is a reasonable saving. Most of all I like buying this sort of thing from them because their spares backup is very good.
