Technical What I think of the windscreen washers on the 500

Will be on my 3rd on the weekend. Didnt know they replace the whole thing, i thought it was just swapping the barrel over.

There were 3 500's at the dealer having it done...

Well the tech at my dealer said that if you change the whole thing over it will just happen again.

I expect it will happen whatever they do or swap, think ill put a small amount of glue on the end to stop it coming out again.

Fixed both of mine by heating the tip of a small srewdriver and sort of melting a couple of ridges onto the barrels. Now a tight fit when inserted and nothing visible that shouldn't be there, blobs of glue/sealer.
I think that's basically what the tech did with my car without the heat.

What have I started? :p

Sharp frost on Friday night! Don't be the next person with your washers falling out, mix up your washer fluid properly so it's up to the job. It's this sort of weather where you really need your washers working properly

So basically they are supposed to be kinda interference fit but they don't interfere with each other enough. I know how they feel, its ages since I was inte... oh never mind.

That's right they are not interfering enough. If you want to get them out to fix them just put your finger over the nozzle bit and get someone to squirt the washers and they'll shoot right out.

I've solved these plastic issues in the past with careful use of a soldering iron to blend the two plastics together - worked on my Alfa when mice chewed the non-return valve on the washer bottle!

Yes our O/S one exploded a couple of weeks ago!

After I got the warranty replacement my husband did this to both jets. He said they will be fine now :)

My washers are still fine even though the car has been out in this freezing weather! I guess they'll break this weekend now :ROFLMAO:

As for the wipers juddering, mine used to judder when I cleaned the screen with Autoglym Shampoo or Window Cleaner and since switching to Dodo Juice shampoo and only washing the screen with that, they've been fine. (y)

I used premixed fluid from the gas station, and it turned slushy yesterday in -13C. The can said it could take -12C so I think I have to start using stronger stuff.... no pop out yet tough(y)

I don't use my jets until I know that they will have defrosted. Don't really need to clear the windscreen on my journey when it's that cold until I'm on the dual carriageway when it gets mucky, and by then all is defrosted. I will keep an eye out for this problem though so thanks for the heads up :)
