Hi all,can anyone offer suggestions to my problem?I have a Ducato with 190000 and up until last week was going strong. I tried to start it on morning and it started but only got about 100yards up the road before stalling. It starts fine and revs with ease . If i keep the revs over 2000rpm it keeps running but under this it stalls. Not straight away- it seems to give about 10-20 seconds of engine before it cuts out and thats on tick over or on revs. A turn of the key and it starts again. I've replaced the pressure regulator sender with a new one with no effect so was wondering if it could be the lift pump relay? I know the pump works as I can hear it (and I made sure it was delivering fuel too) but I've read somewhere that it runs to prime for 20 sec or so from start, then is switched on by a relay. Please correct me if i'm wrong and if anyone can point me to that relay is it would be appreciated. I'm sure its not the injector pump as the van will rev to over 3k before it cuts out. Pretty sure its not the EGR as i have already experienced problems and am getting pretty good at remove and clean(lasts for about 20kmiles with regular redex treatents) Also I have removed and cleaned the MAF again with no effect.

You need to read the codes and monitor the pressure or you're just poking around.

Is it the rail pressure sensor you replaced or the pressure regulatoor on the pump?

True but without the right test kit I am in the dark-- nobody I know owns that sort of kit or I would have borrowed it.
I replaced the pressure regulator sender-the one on the rail, after employing a mobile technician. His reader didn't show anything on the obd but this was a generic one and not a fiat reader. I did ask but he didn't have a fuel pressure tester.
I am hoping that someone might be able to suggest solutions from previous experience or knowledge before I get it taken to a garage( lots of cost) and then get them to fix it(even more cost).

Multiecuscan demo will read everything you need. A cable with adapter to suit is about a tenner on ebay. Any mobile technician that doesn't have a reader capable of reading a ducato isn't worth calling when there are clones of all the premium tools available from China for £50-£350

Well, its sorted I hope!! A friend came over and after some procrastination pulled the connector from the solenoid at the front of the high pressure fuel pump. The van ran without stalling and so we removed the solenoid and checked the electrics with the aid of a 12v battery, I'm not sure if it had some debris in it or was just slightly stuck but after a 6 mile test run all seems back to normal.
Will report back after a couple of trips to London and back.

I wish i knew! It was the one nearest the front on the pump. The van got me to site 110 miles away but started playing up again. I had to throttle and brake to keep it going. It pretty much coasted in to site. Is there a annotated drawing or picture somewhere so i could confirm if not ill take a picture. I might have to call the rac out on this one.

Its the fuel metering valve. When the plug was pulled these things default open so it ran high pressure into the bar. Not sure if that reset something? Could it be the piston getting stuck between positions? How bad could it be to get home with it unplugged?

SORTED:slayer:
It was the metering valve after all!
(I borrowed one off a neighbour after being messed around by 2 mobile mechanics)
£85 quid later and its back to ticking over and driving again-perfect.
200k now only 7000 miles away!!!
Anyone know where I can get some poly bushes from?:)
