Back in august 2022 I bought a Fiat Ducato motorhome. The Ducato has a 3 liter engine, and 6 speed gearbox. When I bought it i heard a noise while shifting gear. I was unaware of the 3 liter and suspected the noise was from the dump valve in the turbo, or the clutch release bearing. The km on the trip was 98.000 km at that time. In September 2022 I had an accident at 115.000 km, and a completely overhauled engine was installed by a car workshop. A complete clutch with release bearing was also installed. But unfortunately, the noise when changing gear didn't disappear. Today the car has been driven 168.000 km and the noise is still there, and now I want to find out what this is. Or…. should it be like this? But none of my two earlier Ducatos has this noise. The Ducatos were 2007 and 2014 both with 2,3 liter engines.

So, today I drove it for a trip, and tested it further. The noise is only audible when the clutch is engaged. When depressing clutch pedal, and increase the rpm I hear the sound. With pedal out, and increase rpm, no sound. No sound when idling. No sound when driving, ONLY when clutch is engaged for gear shift.

I have suspected the double mass flywheel, release bearing, or thrust bearing. But does the Ducato have a trust bearing for the gear axle? I don’t think so and can’t find any spare part. And will DMF have same noise from 98.000 km to 168.000 km, and only when clutch is engaged? I will try to post my video with sound and hope it will be audible.

It’s not a timing gear pulley/bearing is it? Although you said a complete clutch kit was fitted so pulleys should be good🤔 Auxiliary belt pulley/tensioner?

Hmm yes that is strange. Plenty of Ducato experts on here so i’m sure you’ll get plenty of helpful suggestions 🙂 Sorry i couldn’t be of much help on this one!

Anybody/ nobody who knows if 2007-2014 Fiat Ducato 3 liter has a support bearing in the rear of the crankshaft, supporting the end of the gear axel ? Or is the gear axel to short and only supported by the two bearings in each side of the gear box (front and rear bearing)?
