General Soft Paint?

General Soft Paint?

My old Alfa red MiTo was absolutely showered in stone chips after 5k miles and got worse and worse until I got rid of it at 35k miles earlier in the year. A quick Google search will reveal many many problems with this paint and Fiat reds in general. It is interesting to see Alfa no longer use the Alfa Red paint but did absolutely nothing to compensate the victims who had it. Seems like red is a bad colour choice....

It also seems Fiat are cost cutting a little and not applying a decent amount of paint. As others have said you don't see these problems on other cars. However my Bravo in Maserati Blue has some stone chips but much fewer and an amount I can just about live with for now!

Still also don't understand why Fiat don't make front mudflaps!!! They need to sort this out and get some on the market, especially with the way they lip metal panel edges into the wheel arches.... design flaw...

I haven't read all of the threads as there are far too many so sorry if someone has already mentioned this.

Certainly woth keeping an eye on as Fiat UK and Stoneacre believe this rust was caused by stone chips and not faulty paint and as such not covered by warranty.

Stop hunting down every thread that mentions rust and having a whine..... Your car obviously had a problem, no one else has had this issue, get over it.

Maxi - you really are Fiat's poster boy! Fiat said it was caused by stone chips - and you can see that there are many people on here who have expressed concerns about Fiat's paint quality and how easily the paint is chipped. It is in the interest of other forum members that I post these pictures to show what can happen if stone chips are not detected soon enough and treated.

Well, stone chips would have been my guess too, but looking at it with fresh eyes it looks like it was damaged and not repaired properly. The fact of the matter is that you don't know whether it was damaged by the precious owner, the dealer or possibly in transit. You simply don't know.

The high resolution picture definitely looks like a bad repair to me. Bad seal on the inner edge probably from a bodge. Not taking wheel off and just masking it from the edges with paper across the wheel. Not a repair designed to last. sent the pic to my bodyshop guy for his opinion though just incase I'm wrong.
