Thinking of selling my Panda. SWMBO had an accident earlier this year and needs to drive my car occasionally - she needs an automatic - plus having a bit more space inside would be nice!

It's a 2016 4x4 0.9 TA with Winter Pack, rear tinted windows and rear parking sensors. 43k miles. And Road Tax is only £35 a year! Partial service history (last 2 oil changes done by me), refurbed drive shaft and new engine bashplate, rear brakes (discs & pads) recently replaced. WBAC is offering £5k, on Auto Trader similar models are going for £7.5k.

Would asking £6.5k be a fair price, or should I take a punt at higher? It's easier to go down than up!

When I was looking earlier in the year, that sort if thing was going for £8k all day long.

When I sold mine last year, (2013 model, 24k miles, otherwise same apec) most of the online car sales were offering £5-6k, I was offered part- ex of £5.5k and it sold withing an hour of going up on Autotrader for £7.5k, incidentally £1 more than I paid 18 months earlier - Knowing what I know now, I should have stuck it up at £8k.

As you said, easier to go down than up!

I eventually gave up trying to buy a good one without spending a load of money, eventually settled on a similar aged diesel 4x4 Yeti, so if you need a similar car with more space, I can highly recommend!

Hi Ian
Thanks for your comment on my newbie posting, and you’re welcome to have ‘insight’ into my own recent buying process:
- I googled ‘autotrader fiat panda 4x4 twinair’
- then selected an upper price (£7k) and ‘National’
- then trawled thru and (because I’m a skinflint!) started by reviewing all those marked ‘Lower Price’ (5 bands: Higher, Fair, Good, Great and Lower)
- not sure if ‘private’ listings can opt in/out of this price grading but, for me, this price grading certainly figured in my selection process…
So if I were selling (because I’m a bit OCD!) I would probably put all the key metrics for some/all the listed contenders (49 currently listed for the above search criteria) into a spreadsheet: price, TA/diesel (I discounted diesel altogether, wasn’t interested), age, mileage, number of owners, dealer/private, colour, condition indicators, FSH etc then find where your car ‘fits’ - which hopefully will give you a price range for your car. Also your location may need to be factored in (easy motorway access? hill country? or remote+flat eg Norfolk?!)
Hope this helps!
Jay

Remember when pricing there are currently many pandas on autotrader that are way overpriced, 3 and 4 owner cars less than 5 year old, not been on the road for over a year checkable by when last taxed, one is August 22 must be keeping it as an ornament. Many of these have been there for months and looking daily several times for 3 months plus for a 19/20 plate with low miles, 1 owner not red or white there are none worth really buying. As for the 0.9 if a 21/22 or 23 plate come up maybe I'd buy. But a Toyota is looking like the only option for a petrol non mhev small car.
