Keeping all my parts stuff in here.....

I ordered a couple of strut top mounts from www.123parts.co.uk only to get an email back saying they were cancelling the order due to not having stock. They're part of the same company as mytyres so they just dropship and obviously their supplier had no stock. Emailed micksgarage to see if they had any stock and they claim to have them in and I should have them by Thursday. So I've placed an order and then as laughable as it sounds they've put the price up by 5 quid after I placed my order. Anyway they're Lemforder strut top mounts so should hopefully be far better quality then the standard ones which Jason has said were made out of really soft rubber.

Will see how they go and report back. Obviously it won't be till well in the future that I'll know whether they're any better or not, but they're under half the price that Jason paid for his.......
Jesus H Christ! Just had an email from micksgarage and surprise surprise they don't have them in stock but will do so in 4-5 days. I'll believe it when I see it I guess. Will I have to have the standard crappy Fiat ones fitted as replacement? It's looking like it :bang:

To their credit they've emailed me back to say that they've got one in stock, they just need to order the other one in. So these do actually exist and can be obtained!!!!

Let's not count the chickens before they're hatched. Let's see what they come back with. Fiat originals are £80.

Received the Lemforder strut top mounts today. They are boxed as being made in Poland and have a logo ground off so I suspect that they're actually the same part as the Fiat ones but I can't confirm. At worst I've got myself a relatively cheap set of strut top mounts which will be spares.

The garage aren't keen on fitting aftermarket bits which is fair enough and I did expect them to say that to be fair. A little disappointing but hey ho such is life.

Thanks for posting that link - I'm sure I'll need a pair sooner or later. The 500 mounts still look reasonably tight against the inner wing but the Panda has a HUGE gap. Not sure if it's been like it from new; fortunately the strut top is rock solid with the weight on the wheels.

Should be a simple DIY fit & you shouldn't need much in the way of tools if that's all you need to replace :). When I did the ones on the Ka (at about 96k) the kit included the inner bush (you need decent spring compressors for that one), so being a pedant I stripped the struts down to change that too, though I was most likely just making unnecessary work for myself.

I have just started making enquiries for the second service of my 1.2 sport which is due in September. I mentioned that I would be supplying the oil, air, pollen and oil filter and that the car would have done less than 18000 miles by September. Of the 4 emails sent out, I have had just one reply which was from the multi auto dealership I bought the car from which quoted £112.00. None of the others bothered to acknowledge my email. So is business that good for them that they do not need my patronage!

From what i think i doubt many garages are efficient enough to reply to emails. I would call them if i were you.

always call or ring in. Also, don't ask for a price, call independents first and get their labour rates and ask the dealer to match......

It was the same for me when I was 'phoning around Fiat dealerships in a 50 mile radius of where I live. Out of the six I contacted via email, only two bothered to reply and in the end, I didn't take our POP to either of the two that did reply.

At the end of the day, I suspect if they think you've done your homework and you've got some reasonable knowledge about your car, they probably aren't bothered about taking on the work because they aren't actually going to make that much money out of you if you supply your own parts. Just my own thoughts btw.

I called the five Fiat dealers reasonably near me for my impending 2nd year 18,000 mile service. Price varied between £214 including parts and about £300 (I forget the exact figure). My local dealer grudgingly agreed to match the lowest price (they would otherwise have been one of the higher ones). Suits me too as the parking snesors that they fitted on delivery need painting (again). I made sure this covered plugs and the fluids too.

Thanks for reminding me about the coolant and brake fluid. Earlier I forgot to mention that I had bought the spark plugs.

Strange isn't it that there are vehicle manufacturers out there that state brake fluid only needs changing every four years and long life coolant as long as 5 years? Wonder what makes Fiat so different that it insists on brake fluid changes after two years? Or is it just another money making scheme for the dealers? My Cadillac has just recently had a brake fluid change, four years from production and the coolant isn't due for another 11 months (@5 years).

Replacing the wishbone on a Fiat 500

My hubbie rode over a tree trunk and we have been told to replace the wishbone. The mechanic did that this afternoon but there still is a knocking sound! Any advice please? We will then take the car to have wheel alignment and balancing done.
Thankssomuch
Leanne
