Thanks vern. That gearbox mount is what I should be looking for.
The one I have is way too high as well.
You can see how my day went from the battering the nearside inner wing took.
Seems to be the way over the last week; one good day then next all new problems.
If no one has a pic to hand of the gearbox lower mount then I'll ask Damon if I can pop round and have a look at one of his.
Thanks again all................

Has anyone got any ideas on my starter motor issue?
Is the 4x4 starter different?
Are either of these familiar?
Oo help.!

Starter motors for the FIRE engine won't fit the ohv engines. Different bolt hole positions...also maybe only 2 bolts hold on the 903 starter motor? Can't remember exactly now though unfortunately. Just remember discovering that very early on into mk1 panda ownership.

Not sure about the starter motor anymore, seems odd it would be too small. Just a case of whether the bolt holes line up and the gears engage. Could see if if your local halfords have some in stock to compare. I did that with them to look for small alternators to shoe horn into the marbella. You could take the one you have with you for reference.

Also sorry but not sure what you mean by torque arm? Do you mean the linkage hanging accross the flange in this photo?...

I'll see if I have a FIRE type starter motor to hand tomorrow and take some pictures if so. But I suspect I only have the 903 type ones as well. The Y10 turbo will have the FIRE type starter motor I am sure though so if I have one of those it should be different to the ones in your photo assuming this is all correct!

In fact I have workshop manuals for both 903 and y10 Fire....will dig them out tomorrow evening if this isn't all solved by then

just a word of warning with the starter motors.. the FIRE engine used in fiats takes 2 kinds.. lucky if you have the kind that wont fit, you can mod it to fit like i said in my last post.
im using one from a punto and one of the bolt holes (one with the locating lug) was out by a few mm. just file the lug down and it will fit nicely with the 2 other bolt holes.

the higher kW rated starter really flings the engine over well.

Well: I visited Pandasport again today. Each time I leave his place I manage to take a small piece of Pandaaway with me. Eventually I will have taken enough bits to build an entire car. Jonney Cash's Cadillac springs to mind. (if you are old enough of course)
Actually it is remarkable how many Panda bits he can remove and still be left with a running Panda. But you might have to be standing in his garage to fully understand that.
However:

On the left a FIRE Panda starter motor. And on the right in the blue corner a 903 item. And yet I will be fitting a Punto version which has different hole spacing but still fits and works better.
Now I understand what everyone was trying to explain to me.

This is the bracket I was trying to use as a gearbox to body mount. The holes lined up and everyfink..... Shame it's the wrong one.
I would assume it is a MK1 item.
So the brackets I thought were MK1 mounts were of course (as a few of you politely said) the bracket I needed and a spare. Though, of course the bolts hole do not line up at all. I don't want to drop the engine again to weld in captive nuts; if I just put bolts through the section then I will have to 'tube' them via the wheelarch so the section doesn't crush and.... Please don't let me just weld the ****er on. Hmmm
So we move on to the lower gearbox mount.

That flange is the 4x4 take off to the rear axle and....... Nah this mount is no good methinks. Must be MK1 and I don't have another in any of the boxes of bits that came with the car.
I may make one..... Or...... Go back to see Pandasport. Umm

Ok perhaps I should have spoken up sooner on this one (sorry been a little pre-occupied recently). I have come across the FIRE to 903 Gearbox side engine mount problem already with putting the Y10 turbo engine in the marbella...

You can use the existing mounting and add a spacer (I used an old alternator multi-groove pulley as it was the right diameter and height):

I have re-drilled the 2 bolt holes closer towards the inner wing however as this position is also different. Fortunately the big hole in the centre is large enough to give a bit of float.

Hope this saves you some hassle!

Normally I would turn and run at a comment like this... but it's the best offer I've had this valentines haha!

Ahem, anyway glad to help (y)

Si

I was going to say "While we are on a roll..." but it doesn't sound apropriate now.
So anyway... How did you get around the gearbox lower mount?
Will it just swop for a FIRE one.?

For the lower one, the position of the mounting didn't change between any of the Panda / Y10 chassis'. so just use the arm and rubber mount that came with the 4x4 gearbox (not the one that came with the terra just in case they are different lengths - although you could check these against eachother).

I would use the back mount as a rough guide to check the position of both top mounts before modifying anything based on the fact that it is the common position on all panda platforms. Once you have the back mount on, it's just a case of getting the height and orientation right (helps to have another panda for reference here )
