Well the 'Green Neglected One' has been living up to it's name.
Drawn out of neglect due to one of the other vehicles breaking down it survived about a mile before it too became a victim of electrical nothingness.
That Bullbar/Towbar on the front was suposed to be an amusing addition but has proved to be very useful.
The breakdown was a whole circuit going down. The ignition feed to the electronic coil and the ignition module. And all of them packed up at once.
The quick fix was to fling on a points and coil set up and just nick a live feed off anything on the ignition switch that was going my way.
You can waste a whole lot of time trying to isolate electrical problems. The rule is to simply 'wire them out' i.e. add a wire that does what you want it to do.
Anyhow. The engine had never delivered any proper power, had a huge flat spot and was cr*p on fuel.
I had a spare day and 'Freewilly' had an available engine so I nipped over to 'Pandasport' and the two of us proved the theory that (two of) you can do a 4x4 engine swop in six to 8 hours and drive away without panic or stress.
It seems to be a great little engine and would probably merit having it's own oil rather that that from the late neglected one's lump.
All in good time. We didn't even know if it would run so splashing out on new oil was completely out of the question until it had at least proved itself.
As it happens it fired up instantly once the fuel pump had drawn up some liquid gold and I had remembered to hot wire it to the live side of the battery rather than the earth:bang:
