hello
I am going to buy new Punto MK2b with aircon
Dynamic or Eleganza
preferably the newest so 2005 or 2004 or I don't know.

The question I have got about the engine
the most popular is 1.2cc so
8v or 16v is better and which mileages are not too high ??

I can buy also 1.4cc 16v, but it is quite rare.

And tell me what they changed in 1.2 8v later if you know
the first was 188A4.000 and later was 199A4.000
but 199A4.000 is quite rare in Mk2b.

The punto mk2 and mk2b is chassis 188
The mk2b was a facelift of the mk2, which changed the electricals a lil bit and the bodywork mostly
Underneath its basically a mk2

The mk2 punto mostly comes as a 1.2 8v engine (The fiat fire engine - A safe engine)
The 1.2 16v is the 2nd most common i would say, more power and often bolted to the badge "sporting" and higher spec models

You dont find many 8v punto's with aircon, most are 16v

finding a decent 1.4 16v is hard as well

The 199 Chassis was started in 2006 with the Grande Punto :)

Hope this helps

I saw 199 but it is rare in Punto 2 facelift (mk2b).
The problem with 1.4 16v is that they are pricey and rare and I am not sure if is easy to get a cheap parts.

I know 188A400 1.2c 8v is safe because have simple timming and collision free engine.
I am sure that 1.2 8v was cheaper than 16v but now it is not matter,
for me it looks that some parts for 8v are much cheaper than 16v,
so I am not sure if it is good to buy 16v if have say 90 or 95k miles.

Anyway from my experience I know that 90k for 8v 188 engine might be a lot.

Mk2b Dynamic models come as a 1.2 16v or a 1.3 mjt diesel

The mk2b Eleganza models come as a 1.4 16v or a 1.9jtd diesel

There are some "special editions" which were 8v 1.2 with air con the one that springs to mind is the 'Chill'

Of the various models it's my opinion that the 1.3 multijet dynamic is the best to go for as the mk2b multijet doesn't have the expensive brake down points like a dual mass fly wheel or particulate filter etc, gets 60mpg and only costs £30 a year to tax (the 1.2 is about £140 a year to tax)

Eleganza models have a lot to go wrong and frequently do, climate control stability control etc etc

its rare as a mk2b because the 199 is the grande punto chassis
Therefore its not a mk2b :)

he third generation Fiat to bear the name Punto, codenamed Project 199, the Grande Punto was unveiled at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show and went on sale later that year.
If you are buying a mk2b 199 - your been ripped off or buying a dud / stolen car

I think 1.3 multijet engine is good but I am not sure if for me.

I think Chill, ELX was old names, later was used Dynamic both for 8 and 16v with aircon and Active no aircon and Eleganza.
I see many Dynamics in Autotrader and is 50/50 with 8 and 16 valves.
So easy to get what you prefer.
I gave up about Eleganza, too pricy not worth.
Maybe I will buy a Punto Dynamic this month. New but old anyway.
